The summer of 2003 is practically upon us, and long before sweat starts dripping beneath the face masks of Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent and Duce Staley, they will be looking at one another, no doubt with concerns about their futures. Each is approaching the final year of his contract. Each is just an injury, another gut-wrenching loss or an Andy Reid frustration away from being exiled to parts unknown.

Each is looking to pad his wallet. The Eagles care about their desires about as much as Reid cares about the media during postgame news conferences. And worse, considering the money the Eagles spent in 2002, there's absolutely no incentive for the Birds to change anytime soon.

The fans may feel differently. So may critics, agents or even some of the coaches on the Eagles' staff. The "who knows" scenario usually applies when a team enjoys success, has depth, and the support of fans who will settle.

Sometimes for nothing less.
