Given some statements from Chan about being in front of the wave or behind it in terms of having a mobile QB, and the rumors of them really liking Newton;

Would you pick up Newton with the third pick
or Kaepernick with the second pick?

Both are around 6'6"
Both have very strong arms
Both will take 2-3 years to start
Both played in less than ideal offenses
Both can run

So what groundbreaking trait or lack thereof would make Newton 3 or Keapernick 34.

I would take Colin in the second. Newtons off the field takes away any positives that he might have.

If Cam is expected to start in 2-3 years then you don't draft him at 3.

It took Steve McNair three years before he became a full time starter. Granted there's no guaranteeing that Cam or Colin will be another McNair so I'd rather we stock up "Eggs" and then work on QB later in the draft so count me in the Colin crowd.

Cam Newton will help the Bills/ Offense from day one on in my opinion

Myself personally, I honestly don't know much about Kaepernick,

I would be very surprised to see Newton start his 1st year on any team that drafts him.

If they take either one of them I guarantee they are playing in year 1, whether it is Cam at #3 or Colin at #34. Fitz sucks and the Bills will be too far out of a playoff chance when you could have the rookie play at least the last 4-6 games.

Kaepernick at 34 would make me vomit. Newton at 3 would make me gag a little.

The thought of a Bills #10 under center still haunts me...

Damn you Holcomb...

Well if either of them learn the offense well enough, they may play a game or two at the end of the season but nothing meaningful. I think the Bills will not be eliminated from the playoffs until much later this year than last.

Even if Cam is drafted at 3, Fitz is the starter next season unless he gets injured .

In all probability Cam Newton will be used as a 3rd and short specialist and on the Wildcat formation during his rookie season.

Also, given the similarities, what exactly makes Newton head and shoulders better than Kaepernick?

Is it just that he played in the SEC?
Does that qualify him to be a better pro in the NFL?

It tells us he has had success against much better competition, that may transfer to the NFL maybe not.

The fact that he won the Heisman and the National Championship and Kaepernick didn't!

Serious? Who cares about the Heisman? And there's probably just as many busts that won the National Championship than those that lost it...If not more.

But if we are looking at whom to draft and why; when was the last heisman winning or national championship winning QB to win the super bowl?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I count only two Heisman winning QBs who have ever started in a Super Bowl: Jim Plunkett and Roger Staubach.

National championship, I dunno

Three QBs have won a national championship and a Super Bowl: Namath, Stabler and Montana
