or how about FSN Buffalo? :band:

Ted Black was the main guy over at FSN Pittsburgh. He made some comments on NHL Live about looking at the broadcasting side of things for the area.

Dream scenario:
Empire comes back, airs Sabres, Bandits, Bisons, Collegiate and High School games of the week. It airs in southern Ontario, as well.

The Amerks once again become the AHL team of the Sabres to better regionalize the area.

WGR's Paul Hamilton was asked. There are no plans to bring it back. The one major problem Empire ran up against was the lack of programming during the summer. The network was bleeding from the time the Sabres finished until the regular football season started. I wouldn't hold my breath.

After the major press conference Paul Hamilton was in another side presser with Pegula where TP was asked about buying the Bills, Amerks and restarting some of the waterfront projects. He was completely blindsided (and that is not a knock on TP - his intent was to buy the Sabres). The man did not sign up for those things. He owns the Sabres. TP was also asked about the future and said that the plan to win a cup was a "three year plan". Again, people have to wrangle in their expectations.

And forget S. Ont. The rules about broadcasting into Canada almost prohibit it.

It's only a dream, that's all.

I think they could incorporate YNN 24/7 news into the broadcasting, especially for the Summer. On top of that, I'd add skunkpost to the mix. Not to mention Bisons games, minor league Buffalo soccer & basketball.

Eb's not pissing on anybody's dream....just posting what was talked about on the radio. I think Mike Schoop, as much as I really don't like him, might know since he worked for Empire.

I have read that he came to WGR from Rochester. Don't remember him ever mentioning that he worked for Empire.

My mistake....he came to WGR from WNSA...wasn't that the radio counterpart to Empire that was also owned by the Rigas family?

Not true...there is also the Western NY Flash, which is a female soccer team that belongs to both Buffalo and Rochester.

I'm talking about sports that people want to watch.

/sarcasm

and I was talking to Thurm's examples, which the Bisons were the only example he gave played in the summer. There IS also Buffalo Bills workouts and training camp.

I think a new "Empire" would need programming people would actually watch. Who watches AAA baseball on TV?

Check out STO (Sports Time Ohio) and you will find a station that has just about as much programming on it as what people have laid out in this thread. It is Cleveland Indians games and a bunch of sports shows. Sprinkled in here and there are High School games and College games. That's the extent of it...

I think this area could have it's own sports network again.

I don't live in Buffalo anymore- don't know if there is a WNY local cable news outlet (like New York One or New England Cable News) but that's the only way it will work.

News during the day and Summer, with sports talk and events. Toss in Rochester and you might have enough

Well there are over 100 B I S O N's games a year so I don't see a problem.

I am pretty sure I would rather change a diaper than watch soccer on TV.

Could a new empire get the rights to make their own Oil.Change type show? Where it's a reality show of how it works inside the sabres locker-room?

also a Bills Hard knocks would get serious viewership.

I have no idea how the NFL and NHL regulate their rights to be used and if the NHLPA and NFLPA have to get involved.

Sabres games are under contract to MSG through 2016. Not gonna happen.

Besides, they already have Time Warner SportsNet... that's about as close as you're going to get for now.

I think this area could have it's own sports network again. The Indians give them 180 games (including spring training) of MLB programming. No decent size audience will watch AAA baseball-

HS and College sports are good- only if this network can Carry a lot of 'Cuse games. If Someone else has the rights, it's not going to work. No one will watch Niagara Basketball or UB Girls Volleyball
