The Buffalo Sabres have made a bold move in advance of the NHL trade deadline, acquiring sniper Brad Boyes from the St. Louis Blues for a second round pick in 2011.

Not bad. He's a solid player and used to be a damn good goal scorer a couple years ago. If he can keep scoring here and it gives us the ability to get rid of Connolly, it's a win-win. But from reading what the fans on the Blues message board are saying about him, he sounds like another Connolly... :ill:

He's been injury free for the past couple years, already an upgrade to connolly. Change of scenery can do wonders for some guys..... who knows.

Good point and he's on a hot streak right now, scoring 3 goals and 19 assists since the new year.

They have enough guys that are only gritty types. They need more talent.

They do not need another 3rd or 4th line guy.

They have enough size on defense too. Add a puck mover. This team has plenty of physical type of defensemen.

Can they get David Backes, too?

Boyes is +11 on a team with a -7 goal differential. I like that.

Nice addition, but this is a typical Regier move. He doesn't have to give up one of his prescious players and doesn't need to make that decision. I'll be more impressed when he makes a move that makes him make a tough decision. Plus, even though Boyes is an upgrade, he is a shell of his former self right now. I hope he can get it back, but we are not getting the Boyes from a few years ago, we're getting the Boyes from the past two years.

I actually totally agree with all of that. Now hopefully we see one of his precious players moved later today. We don't need Connolly if Boyes can play center.

we need to work on our definition of "40 goal scorer" around here.

A "40 goal scorer" is someone who can consistently score 40 goals. Boyes has done it once in his 8 year career. At the end of this year, Vanek will have done it merely twice in 6 years.

Therefore, neither of them are "40 goal scorers."

I went skydiving once. That does not make me a skydiver. I've driven trucks on rare occasions when moving/helping friends move. That does not make me a truck driver.

I'm not saying this is a bad trade. I don't know enough about Boyes to comment fully, but I do like the fact that the Sabres are unloading picks for guys who can help now. So I'm really not bothered by the trade. I'm just pissed at the reduced standards and homeristic views around here.

boyes production: this was mentioned in another article i read. that with the salary cap, a lot of trades will be decent players who may have fizzled in their town and need another chance somewhere else. There aren't going to be many pat lafontaine type trades because the cap kind of prevents against it.

Well, if they're 40 goal scorers, then I'm a:
-skydiver
-truck driver
-hockey player
-basketball player
-weightlifter
-computer programmer
-project manager
-international traveler
-political activist

After all, I've done all those things at least once in my life, so I guess I've earned the title. That guy from the Dos Equis commercial better look out, cuz I'm catching up fast!

he's a consistant 20 Goal scorer, who has reached the 30's and 40s.

He used to whoop buffalo when he played in Boston.

The question is, who do we get to center vanek and boyes. or the Top 2 lines for that matter

trapezeus
02-28-2011, 09:04 AM
i thought boyes is a center or can be a center and that's what the sabrse will ask of him?

What is it with buffalo sports teams and their refusal to put people in their natural position?

Sabres can put all righthanded shots out there on the PP. They got a lot of them. Vanek, Stafford, Connolly, Pomminville, Myers, Boyes, that is a lot of righties (and we have others, we might have the most right handed players in the league).

You make the pro bowl once and they call you a pro bowler. Don't worry about me being a homer I could give a **** about the sabres, I just like Boyes. Great one-timer from the right half boards on the powerplay. Used to kill Vancover with it yearly.

X Time 40 Goal scorer should be the Label.

Boyes is a 1 Time 40 Goal Scorer, Vanek is a 2 Time 40 Goal Scorer. ..

How does "X" translate to "Once" ?

Beebe's Kid

How does "X" translate to "Once" ?
If X = 1.

So, to recap, the X is the variable, which is defined by how many times the player in question was able to surpass the 40 goal mark in a season.

If a player has enjoyed tallying 40 points via goal in two seasons in the NHL, the X, the variable, would equal 2. Making the player a "2 time 40 goal scorer."

This would make Op happy, and apparently teach some how to use X as a variable.

How about "Sucks" or "Is Alright"

He can't ship off at the end of the season. He has another year on his contract past this season.
