The Story That Won't Go Away

More allegations, however, came out late last week that may have gone under the radar. Although, based on what we know thus far, the validity of the story is certainly in question.

The host of a Huntsville, Ala., sports talk radio show says he has heard audio tapes from former Mississippi State player John Bond that implicate the dual-threat signal-caller in his father, Cecil’s, pay-for-play scheme that was investigated by the NCAA.

That's fishy as hell right there. If the tapes exist, they would have been heard by the NCAA. I don't think they even exist.

Re: The Story That Won't Go Away

Here's another article, posted before NFP jumped on it.

Scott Moore says he's heard the tapes that John Bond made with Cecil Newton and that one had Cam in the background in one of them.

      Story is gaining momentum.

Even though Cam was cleared, I firmly believe he was aware of what his father was doing.

He probably was. But the notion that a tape exists, that the NCAA knew about or even heard, that proved Cam was present, and then the NCAA cleared him fully... That seems unlikely at best.

the NCAA is not the FBI. The existence of a tape doesn't mean they could find it or compel someone to hand it over.

Does this honestly change anyone's opinion on weather to draft him? It doesn't for me because I say no at 3 either way but taking cash to play isn't a huge deal for me. I don't think it would make him play any harder or throw any more accurate.

Lack of subpoena power is the NCAA issue.

However you do know the FBI was involved in this investigation?

The articly is saying that they knew about it and may have even heard the tape. Just doesn't seem plausible. If the guy has new evidence, it will be interesting to see if he puts it out there.

But really, either way, until he makes the tape available, it's nothing more than rumor.

The NCAA never cleared cam... the investigation is still open.

They only found his father guilty "at this time" (an amazing ruling because they found him guilty of taking money for his son to play football, but didn't find any university guilty of paying him... i found that hilarious)

The NCAA also ruled him illegible to play the rest of the season before the SEC and Auburn jumped in to the mix... an hour later the NCAA withdrew it's objection... likely because of a backroom deal.

My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

                      MY WIFE SAID THAT!!!

We really should just forget Cam Newton even exists, and let him become somebody else's headache.

But who cares if he's a headache? There were lots of headache QB's who could run SOOO fast and throw the ball SOOO far like Michael Vick and Matt Jones and Vince Young and JP Losman and Jamarcus Russell and Jay Cutler and Jimmy Claussen...

I would've taken that money in a second. The only difference being I would've owned up to it when I got caught.

It was probably real tough for Auburn to deal with.
