Here's one guy I wouldn't mind going after; he was cut strictly for financial reasons.
But looks like he may stay in Green Bay ...

However, that doesn’t mean Hawk is gone for good. According to Schefter, there are some who believe a new deal for Hawk is coming, and he’ll stay in Green Bay.

Maybe he will take it personally with GB and not want to go back there

If we are going to make one splash in FA in this off season...sign his ass! That would lock up the middle for us once we extended Poz. I'm not saying we'd have the best LB's in teh league but it would plug a sizeable gap for us. Kelsay, Poz, Hawk and Merriman would be a nice lineup with good experience. Then you grab young depth at OLB and ILB in the draft in the later rounds and we're set behind the DL.

Take Dareus if he's there at #3 and this solves a lot of our defensive problems.

Hawk = the POS with players around him. Do we really need two of those guys manning our middle?

Love to have him next to POZ in Buffalo!!

For what it's worth, he was the leading tackler and a captain on the 2nd-best defense in the league. The Packers want him back, just not at $10 million a year. Just entering his prime at 27. He'd certainly be an upgrade here.

32% of the POS's tackles were "assists" (48 of 151).
35% of Hawk's were (39 of 111).

IMO the last thing we need in an inside LBer is another guy that trails and 'cleans up' the play. We need a difference maker next to the POS, not a clone.

No problem, Phil  I wasn't going to get on your case. I'm just not a huge fan of separate threads for every free agent and was hoping to consolidate a little.

I would call him immediately and make him a strong offer. Better than any MLB in this draft and solves a glaring need.

Didn't I hear somewhere that Hawk struggled as a 3-4 Linebacker?

Articles I'm reading generally say he started out sparingly but improved over the season. He became a valuable leader as injuries hit the LB corps.
Here's a good one:

Honestly no, but that doesnt mean you blow your entire wad on the guy that is available but who you know is not a difference maker.

There a number of rookies in this draft class who will come cheaper, have more athleticism, and higher upside. They do lack his experience and intangibles in some cases (though Id argue Kelvin Sheppard is just as much a leader), but that's a trade off Im willing to make for a shot at getting the next Willis.

i would take a strong look at acquiring this guy. a good vet with good leadership and can bring some knowledge to our locker room about what it takes to get to a super bowl.

Could Not Agree More. To me he is a middle of the pack type of LB, definitely nothing special. Pass.

Well that's like saying;

You, Me, Doc, Op, Mikey, Night Train, and YardRat > Bills Defensive Front 7

The Bills can afford to go after him and it would close up a major need come draft time, allowing them to focus elsewhere.

I have always liked HAWK, if we could sign Hawk, Re-sign Poz and draft Von Miller DAMN I would love our LBers

so 1/3 of the tackles made by hawk and Poz are assisted tackles.

that means 66% are solo.. Sounds like solid LB'in to me
