A free concert that will include performances by Britney Spears and possibly Mary J. Blige and a patriotic tribute to the U.S. armed forces will highlight the NFL's opening-weekend festivities on the National Mall on Sept. 4. The Washington Redskins and New York Jets will play the first game of the season later that night at FedEx Field.
Last year the rock band Bon Jovi played a free concert before 500,000 in New York's Times Square before the New York Giants-San Francisco 49ers game. The league is working with the Department of Defense to allow between 20,000 and 40,000 troops and their families special access to the concert and the other events, said sources familar with the event....
