Then another, then another.

Not sure if there's that much "progress".

It's not progress in itself...but it's a sign that the negotiations have indeed progressed. I doubt they'd bother to extend the deadline for a week or two unless they're actually close to finishing a deal.

if anything it gives the fans hope.

The question is and remains can 2 spoiled groups find a compromise in the end.

Apparantly the owners made a "significant" offer to the players yesterday.

I believe I read that next friday is the drop dead date, which means we will either have an agreement or have a lockout, no more extensions.

"An agreement will be made by negotiation, not litigation" I can't remember who said that, but it is true. As long as they are talking, that is a very good thing.

Sorry to say this, but unless free agency continues, an "extension" without a new CBA at this time of year is pretty much meaningless.

The draft will most likely happen before free agency this year, but free agency will happen before camp starts IMO.

Up until yesterday, I always figured the league would be smart enough to get this thing figured out. Then it looked like we were going to lockout. The news that they extended it gives reason for legitimate hope. Someone is going to have to get creative with some of these ideas in the next week though...

No way that a lockout happens...A deal won't get done until the last minute possible though.

I'm glad they agreed to an extension of the deadline, but I still wonder why the owners aren't down there during the negotiations. The CBA will only get finalized once the owners go down there and until we see reports of them headed down to the negotiations, I'm not holding out any hope.

free agency lasts usually from early march , and into the season (if bodies are still out there looking for work)

the only thing that will affect the first two waves of free agent signings are if there's a prolonged work stoppage , or if this extension crap lasts up until the draft
