See this is what I don't understand. Who does Carolina need to bluff? They can't scare someone to trade up ahead of them. Therefore I think Carolina has to have genuine interest, and other teams could be smokescreening.

It's probably just teams doing their homework. If Carolina thinks for a second that he might be worth the #1 overall pick, then they have to take a good, hard look at him.

For Carolina it's like holding the rights to a player... maybe they want him... but if someone offers them a good trade they will give him up.
