    Possible rule changes

    The NFL's Competition Committee has proposed moving kickoffs back to the 35-yard line as opposed to the 30-yard line.

    A touchback would give the receiving team the ball at the 25-yard line instead of the 20. Chairman Rich McKay cited injury concerns and the wedge block for the proposed change that would result in far more touchbacks. If the rule goes into effect, it would put a serious hurt on return-yardage fantasy leagues. It would also directly reverse the 1990s decision to move the kickoff line back and create fewer touchbacks. One other rule change being proposed is to modify the replay system to automatically include all scoring plays.

    Found this interesting. Maybe we'd finally reduce our wedge penalties then.

        I like the kickoff from the 35 but think the ball should still be on the 20 rather than the 25 in the event of a touchback. I think it would be more likely to be run out of the endzone in that event.

          They want more touchbacks? Are they trying to make the game more boring? Geez, just ban all kickoffs.

            The league looks at two years worth of plays to determined repeat offenders.
            Rules defining a defenseless player will be expanded and now will include eight categories:
            • A quarterback in the act of throwing;
            • A receiver trying to catch a pass;
            • A runner already in the grasp of tacklers and having his forward progress stopped;
            • A player fielding a punt or a kickoff;
            • A kicker or punter during the kick;
            • A quarterback at any time after change of possession;
            • A receiver who receives a blind-side block;
            • A player already on the ground.
            so basically QB is protected but does a player who say intercepted teh ball and runs said QB over get flagged??

              It's only a matter of time until they adopt those infantile college overtime rules - in the name of fairness...
