Veteran receiver will be go-to guy on more than third-down situations
ALLEN PARK n-- As he enters his 13th NFL season with his fourth team, Shawn Jefferson is relishing his role as the veteran receiver.

The Lions' receiving corps is dominated by youth, including Charles Rogers, the No. 2 pick out of Michigan State, and fellow rookies David Kircus and Travis Anglin. So late last month, team president Matt Millen signed Jefferson, who is much more than the clutch third-down receiver he is anticipated to be.

Jefferson, who is 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, spent the last three seasons with Atlanta. He caught 27 passes for 394 yards and a touchdown last season. He had missed only one game his first 11 NFL seasons before missing three in 2002.
