do the early 90s bills, 88-93 belong with the greatest teams of all time?

90s cowboys, 80s-90s- 49ers, steel curtain, doomsday? 00s pats?

are they one of the top 10 teams of all time?

No you need to win a SB to get in that discussion.. The 1990 Bills are universally in any Top 5 list of "greatest teams that never won a Super Bowl"

Gotta be the best at some point to be brought into the conversation, and unfortunately they weren't.

but it seems that its getting more and more respect to go to 4 straight superbowls, win or lose, that will never be done again...

but it seems that its getting more and more respect to go to 4 straight superbowls, win or lose, that will never be done again... Right, and it shouldn't be understated that it was one of the greatest feats in all of sports since the Bills are the only team to have ever done it. But, not having a SuperBowl victory to show for it kind of tarnishes the act if you understand the meaning. Getting there 4 straight times is a great feat but winning one of the four makes it legendary. That is where the Bills failed. JMO

Why "failed"? They were not competing against themselves. Saying they failed is like saying, "he trained for the marathon for a year and then only finished 25 miles". There were other teams on the field. Saying the Bills failed is not giving them credit nor giving the winning teams the respect they earned.

I would put that team out there against anyone..... I just say we would win 50 percent of the games against those other great teams. No we didn't win a superbowl but damn they were good real good,

The 90 Bills were the better team in SB XXV (IMO). However, The Bills had like 19 minutes time of possession for the game and we still almost pulled it out. I never thought Norwood would make the FG to begin with. The game went to commercial and my buds and I were already *****ing he was not going to make it cus it was to far for him.

I think we lost out best chance to win the game when Hostetler was able to hold onto the ball in the end zone when Bruce got him and we only got a safety. To me that was a bigger play than the missed FG. Also our defense was less than great and could not stop Otis Anderson for god sake. He was a good back but our defense made him look like Jim Brown in that game. If folks want to blame anyone for the loss I think you gotta point some fingers at the defense in this one. They ran all over us. The Giants also set a SB record in time of possession at 40:33 and got 24 first downs.

The Bills also on offense went 1 for 8 on 3rd down conversions. This is in there 19 minutes of possession :laughter:

Wide right is far from the reason we lost the game. It was just our last chance to win the game. Honestly it is amazing at what the offense did in just 19 minutes of possession. The better team lost to the team with the better coach, LOL

I have to give them alot of respect, usually the loser of the super bowl doesn't fair well the next season. That team had to be pretty mentally tough to go through 3 seasons of losing the super bowl but still fighting its way back.

As much as I loved those teams as a kid, I'll have to go with "no way." As good as they were, those teams folded (especially in the last three SBs) when it counted most.

That Bills team was definately special, but definately not a top 10 team all-time. Not without the ring to prove it.

If you want to see how important winning the SB is to your legacy, then look no further then the 2007 Patriots ( or CHEAT-triots depending on your POV). Most remember them for LOSING the superbowl in dramatic fashion and NOT for having a perfect regular season. In other words, they remembered more for losing (aka coming up short) then for coming within one game of having the perfect season. That's the way it is dude.

Except they were 0-4 when it counted.
