If you never discipline a child, he'll keep doing what he's not supposed to.

Kick him out for the rest of the season/playoffs.

They just kicked him out for the rest of the regular season and the 1st round

Not enough, should've been gone for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs.

No doubt.

And Lemieux has to do something with the way he has been talking about head shots.

Wow! What an *******! He should be done until next year.

Finally got what he deserves.

the guy deserves to get three headshots and then be asked to play the next day. That would be justice.

Let's just thank god that colin campbell's kid doesn't play for pittsburgh.

i think Mario will sit him longer than the suspension (if they make it out of the first round) and will likely look to trade him, and or void his contract in the offseason

trapezeus
03-22-2011, 02:39 PM
can you void the contract without buying it out?

Mski

can you void the contract without buying it out?i dont know if you can, but im sure they will look into it, perhaps trying to argue that his repeat offener status was a breach of contract?

I would guess the NHLPA would fight pretty hard to avoid having contracts being voided. This is like a Fred Phelps freedom of speech case. The players in total probably are against the cheapness of Matt Cooke, but if there is precedent for owners to lose interest in a player and void their contract without paying that will open a can of worms where players like Hecht who are past their prime could just be voided.

Players who aren't dirty but just a financial nuissance could be cut. Plus there is a risk with signing "enforcers" like cooke. The penguins knew what they were getting into. They shouldn't be able to pretend that they thought they were just getting a solid hockey player. They took the risk, it's currently hurting them in the wallet. Not our problem. we signed a bunch of guys who will never do that. And they don't play on edge consitently and that's the risk we took.

NHL contract are fully guaranteed.

trapezeus

NHL contract are fully guaranteed.

so what does that mean? Voiding the contract is not possible, correct?

the team would void it, but would have to fulfill the full amount owed to the player. and the team would have to buy out the contract in full to get the years off the salary cap, correct?

if that's the case, i don't think pitts would buyout cooke.

Comparing him to Chara is obsurd.

The problem is the kid can play, he isn't just a goon out there. I am sure the Penguins want him to stop his nonsense and worry more about the game.

not comparing him to chara. just saying that if cooke was on boston, i doubt he would have gotten the suspension he got.

there is enough to go on now that campbell does what he pleases with suspensions and rule number 1 is, "don't mess with my son's chances of winning a cup."

I dare you to call that absurd.

A lot of people say Campbell didnt hit Cooke for the Savard hit because of his relationship with Savard. I think the guy does as he pleases.

Campbell is a disaster. I can't wait to see what happens when his son gets hit with a cheapshot. i know he'll throw the book at that guy. or should i say, the puppet who steps in to be the "impartial" voice of reason.

Right you would have to buy him out. Or send him down but he would be open to waivers at that point.

Surprised that on GR this morning, Cooke was named most hated player in the NHL. Second? Not Avery, not Neil, not Rutuu. Pat Kaleta.

I find that odd because, in my opinion which I'm sure is different then a non-Sabres fan, he plays on the line but never really goes over it like a cheap elbow but I guess he is seen a cheap shot artist by the rest of the league. I think he plays the game the way it should be.

Paul Hamilton said that he believes it because he hears it from other players on other teams that they believe that he has no regard for other players and that he goes out to hurt other players.

By the way, Rutuu didn't even make the top ten.

kaleta got a bum rap in the minors....... didn't take cheap shots, but constantly moving around the ice like he's playing pinball and that reputation followed him. he plays his part well, and will fight, but i think he is hated because of him ducking fights, after baiting the other player.

That's the trouble with hockey. Now, even if you give the cleanest check out there, if it's a hard hit or the guy gets a little hurt, all of the sudden you have to fight. Like Campbell's hit on Umbeger, clean hit (maybe suspendable not) but hard and devastating and everyone wanted to fight him for it.

Kaleta plays with an edge, there is no doubt about that. Some of his hits are late and some are borderline. But I never see him throwing elbows around like some of these idiots do. One thing is for certain, his career won't last long if he keeps throwing these hits. Not because he is going to get taken out by some goon, but because his body already can't take the abuse. I think that is why Gaustad picks his battles more carefully. He isn't helping the team or himself if he keeps throwing himself all over the place and getting injured. Plus, he needs to learn to fight a little better, and maybe put on a few more pounds of muscle. He looks a little thin sometimes. That goes for both Kaleta and Gaustad.

do you not remember the last fight he was in? he absolutely destroyed the other guy... to the point where i think other teams goons may not be so willing to fight him
