Bills get compensatory 7th round pick

We get an additional 7th round pick in this year's draft.

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with the trade.

Really? I'm surprised. I thought compensatory picks were awarded when the value of the free agents you lost exceeds the value of those you signed, not for trades. Does this mean the league thinks the Bills got fleeced in that trade?

The Lynch trade was mentioned in the article within the context of their extra 4th round pick, not the seventh.

As far as I know, the league has never awarded comps for trades, only free agent losses.

Amazingly, New England didn't recieve any comp picks. I looked it over (the list is on NFL.COM) and, lo and behold, it's true!!

Fixed the part about it being from the Lynch trade. Was this from when TO left?

I bet the pick was for losing Owens in Free Agency. We lost both Owens and Reed last year.

You're right, the article never links the comp pick with the Lynch trade. That blows up my post that I thought was kind of funny.

nothing to do with the trade. we get it just because they traded away a former 1st round pick.

Re: Bills get compensatory 7th round pick

Normally, teams receive compensatory picks when they lose more free agents than they gain. This year, though, not enough teams - including the Bills - were eligible, and the number of compensatory picks has to equal 32 (the number of teams in the league).

So the Bills and several other teams received an additional 7th round pick to satisfy this requirement.

It has nothing to do with the value of free agents lost or the trading of high round picks.

Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?
