sabres don't need this game and need to be ready to sink the hurricanes.

also, sabres haven't gotten a ton of quality scoring chances of late. i see that continuing on for a while. they don't have an offensive leader that can break them out of the slump.

honestly, in this situation it doesn't matter. The important thing is us getting 2.

I never care about giving up the extra point to WC teams because it really can't come back to bite us (I suppose it could if the team that got the extra point ended up going against the Sabres in the Stanley Cup finals and the 1 extra point gave them home ice, but the chances of that happening are ridiculously remote).

I care about giving up the extra point to eastern conference teams earlier in the season because you just never know when it could come back to bite you.

At this point, giving up a point to the Caps is meaningless. Even if we win the rest of our games and they lose the rest of theirs, we can't catch them, so the extra point is irrelevant.

If we had given up the extra point to NYR last night, or if we give up a point to Carolina on Sunday, it's a big deal, but giving up the point against the Caps means nothing. The only real drawback is having to play some extra hockey between back-to-back road games.
