    Reasons for optimism/pessimism?

    Post yours...

My reasons for Optimism going into next season...

Torrell Troupe seems to be a workhorse, that can only help our Dline if it translates into results on the field. the draft - as of right now, I'd say we've got a 50% chance of grabbing Marcel Dareus - if not, we can still take the #1 rated QB Blaine Gabbert should still be on the board if Dareus isn't.

Chan Gailey seems to be able to get the most from mediocre at best rosters, and I think Wandstedt (sp?) will help our Linebackers out tremendously - look for our Defense to be more towards the middle of the pack this year. Chan Gailey should be able to figure out ways to get Spiller the ball in space - definitely looking forward to seeing how that plays out. Our O line looked like crap in the beginning of the season, but seemed to perform better in the second half of the year. We started the season off as an 0-8 team, and finished off as a 4-4 team - and gave a lot of playoff teams fits and took them to overtime. technically, a lucky bounce here and there, and we could have been an 8-8 team in Chan Gailey's first season. (bears, Chiefs, Ravens, and Steelers) Hell, if we didn't take Brett Favre out, we may very well have beaten the Vikings too - for a 9-7 mark (with those lucky bounces).

Fact is, with some decent coaching, we can honestly say that we've got the light at the end of the tunnel.

    now for pessimism...

We've been out of the playoffs for over 10 years, haven't had a winning season since 2003 with Bledsoe and McGahee on the roster. We've come off our worst record since 2001 with Gregg Williams' 3-13 campaign. Sad as it may be, we were still only a 4-12 team last season, and we've still got a lot of question marks through out our roster. still got a lot of dead weight that needs to be cut like cancer (aaron Maybin needs to put up of shut up in training camp this season - otherwise, I don't want him on our roster next season after final cuts).

Pessimism-- George Edwards is still the defensive coordinator. He is hapless and out of his depth. The fact that he is still there demonstrates to me a tolerance of substandard coaching.

Optimism (slim)- Maybe Wannstedt will influence the defensive game planning.

Pessimism - This team still has no RT, threatening/healthy pass rusher, and we haven't had any FA pick ups to see how this draft will shape up.

Optimism - What little there is, we have a decent to good QB, offensive weapons, and a few glimmers of hope on defense.

          Optimism:

          Run defense can't get worse.
          More experience in "system."

          Pessimism:

Ownership evidences lack of committment to build winning team
          Front office highly suspect
          Marginal coaching
          Overall lack of talent

            Optimism:
            - Guys coming back from injury
            - Young guys that showed flashes of promise
            - Offensive improvement last year
            - Still have the draft and free agency
            - Focus in the draft seems to be on front 7, defense overall, and some on OL

            Pessimism:
            - Still the Buffalo Bills.

Optimism: If we still suck something fierce next season, then we have a legit chance at Luck, Barkley, or Jones.

optimism- we have a pick that's in a slot that should be almost impossible to *** up.

pessimism- we've picked from roughly the same slot for the past decade and somehow managed to achieve the impossible almost.every.time.

OPtimism - 2nd year under Gailey. Hopefully Gailey has better idea of what he's got and players have a better grasp of the new system.

Pessimism - still no probowlers on the team. Lack of franchise qb.

Opt: Stevie Johnson plays like he did last year.

Pes: Donte Whitner plays like he did last year.

                        Re: Reasons for optimism/pessimism?

Pessimism is a bit strong of a word because it suggests a repetitive negative state, and does not describe my current worries about the upcoming season. However, I am not optimistic about this upcoming season because I think this lockout hurts the Bills process of a turn around more than other teams.

I am optimistic about our chances of landing an impact player should we stick to picking a prospect at #3 in the draft who ever that turns out to be. But, that's my opinion.

Optimism.. If there is no season in 2011.....then we get to pick 3d again without having to endure another 4-12 season!
Wake up, brush your teeth, and get ready for a day of hating the Dolphins. Or the Pats? How to choose?

Optimism - we have to get lucky sometime.

Pessimism - Aaron Maybin and the rest of the high picks we've spent on non superstars.
                              Draft Gabbert at #3!
