My reasons for Optimism going into next season...
Torrell Troupe seems to be a workhorse, that can only help our Dline if it translates into results on the field. the draft - as of right now, I'd say we've got a 50% chance of grabbing Marcel Dareus - if not, we can still take the #1 rated QB Blaine Gabbert should still be on the board if Dareus isn't.
Chan Gailey seems to be able to get the most from mediocre at best rosters, and I think Wandstedt (sp?) will help our Linebackers out tremendously - look for our Defense to be more towards the middle of the pack this year. Chan Gailey should be able to figure out ways to get Spiller the ball in space - definitely looking forward to seeing how that plays out. Our O line looked like crap in the beginning of the season, but seemed to perform better in the second half of the year. We started the season off as an 0-8 team, and finished off as a 4-4 team - and gave a lot of playoff teams fits and took them to overtime. technically, a lucky bounce here and there, and we could have been an 8-8 team in Chan Gailey's first season. (bears, Chiefs, Ravens, and Steelers) Hell, if we didn't take Brett Favre out, we may very well have beaten the Vikings too - for a 9-7 mark (with those lucky bounces).
Fact is, with some decent coaching, we can honestly say that we've got the light at the end of the tunnel.
now for pessimism...
We've been out of the playoffs for over 10 years, haven't had a winning season since 2003 with Bledsoe and McGahee on the roster. We've come off our worst record since 2001 with Gregg Williams' 3-13 campaign. Sad as it may be, we were still only a 4-12 team last season, and we've still got a lot of question marks through out our roster. still got a lot of dead weight that needs to be cut like cancer (aaron Maybin needs to put up of shut up in training camp this season - otherwise, I don't want him on our roster next season after final cuts).
