The coach on the other end of the phone was excited for his month of vacation to begin soon, but he also knew the bliss of his R&R would likely be interrupted.
"This is the month when we sit and hold our breath and pray none of your guys get into any trouble," said the coach. "It happens every year. Some guys just have too much time on their hands. I'll try to not even read the newspaper during this last month. If it's one of my guys, I'll know about it one way or another."
There is no official nickname for the wasteland that is the one-month moratorium before the start of training camp, but the fear it instills in coaches and many players is nothing short of significant....
