    Rice's dedication to the community inspires children to always improve

    DETROIT -- Ron Rice might not play professional football anymore, but it hasn't stopped him from giving back to the community he loves.

    Rice, a former Lions' safety, has continued to help kids from this city. On Saturday, his fourth annual Weekend with the Pros event to benefit the Ron Rice Foundation wrapped with a celebrity softball game at Wayne State.

    On Thursday and Friday, Rice teamed with former and current NFL players to hold a free football clinic for more than 250 youngsters.

    "I always envisioned myself as a trailblazer, a leader," said Rice, who started his foundation in 1999. "So whatever I do, I try to do it to the best of my ability.
