3 Doctors classify Bowers surgery as "micro-fracture".

Time to get rid of the Bills doctors. Didn't they also clear McCargo, so he could be traded to the Colts, but then the Colts voided the deal because he failed their physical.?

I hope that was just a rumor that the Bills cleared him. We have a hard enough time picking good players without having some quacks tell us a guy is fine when he's not.

Here's more supporting the long term injury belief:

On the heels of one positive report regarding Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers' medical recheck in Indianapolis, multiple negative reports streamed in about Bowers' knee Tuesday evening.

Just brings the original rumor further into question. But we may not hear the truth on it until after the draft.

People should keep in mind what DB said before, though. If teams want to pass a player, they'll pass him; if they want to fail him, he'll fail.

Just saw the report....damn, he could slip out of the first round all together now.

I can see why they would do that with current players but it does not make sense with a potential draftee. Why fail him if he's healthy? Even more why would a team pass him if they know there is a problem? What do they have to gain in either case?

I kind of agree. I mean a team may take a chance on an injured player due to the potential upside. The Bills did it with McGahee. But, if the guy has legitimate long term problems and it's a given that he will either have a shortened career or will never be the same again or both, they wouldn't draft him high anyways. I think the problem is that we are discussing conflicting rumors. We just don't know the truth and we may not know until draft day. The teams know the real situation based on their medical staffs assessment. I do think that there may be a concern to some teams about his ability to fully recover, but I also don't think all teams agree on it. If what we hear is true, it could be a case where one doctor sees one thing and another sees another. I would tend to think there isn't that much difference in opinion between the doctors, but there could be.

It comes down to what a player will do, not what they have done. The issue with Bowers has blown up just recently. If a team thinks he will be fine, he's worth a top 10 pick when healthy. If a team thinks he will never be the same, he could drop well out of the 1st round.

I've found it interesting that the Bills are one of very few team reports I've heard. Passing him could potentially help his stock (shouldn't hurt, anyway), possibly leading to a team to trade up for him...

Purely speculation, but there are reasons why a team might want to fail or pass draft prospects, and then let that news "leak" to the media.

Earlier tonight, Silva posted a blurb based on reports from Steve Wyche of NFL.com and Nolan Nawrocki of Pro Football Weekly regarding red flags found during the medical re-check of Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers' knee last weekend in Indianapolis.

Not being a Quack, some of this is meaningless. Things to note though, are the explicit denial of arthritis. I'm moderately impressed that they have been so precise in the descriptions of what has been done. It may well be that one part of the procedure qualifies as 'micro-crack surgery', but it seems as though that is by definition, as opposed to seriousness. An analogy would be paper cut to knife slash both being 'lacerations'.
Then again - I'm not really remotely qualified to say.
Seems to me that there's the pretty typical efforts of rumours and innuendos going on, in an effort to hurt Bowers 'stock', either from a rival agent, or a team who may be looking to pick him up later than he's potentially going to go.
TBH, I'm glad I'm not the guy who has to make a decision about Bowers, but I think there's definitely some sort of hidden agenda going on against the guy - either from a rivals agent, or a team hoping to pick him up if they can make him fall far enough.

I read that too. I was shocked to see the agent go into so much detail. At the very least, it puts the onus on the supposed sources to provide their evaluation details. They of course won't do that because it's not in their vested interest. Bowers and his agent have money on the line and putting out information like this that may be viewed as credible helps their cause. The teams will keep the details private because sharing information which can drastically affect a prospects stock is a conflict of interest.

As I said before, I think we won't know the true story until draft day or beyond. But, if you were a betting man, the new information may swing you more towards the belief that Bowers will recover fully.

I would not touch him at 3 without several medical evaluations. Pass
