Bolting the Dome?
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Vikings have a strong chance of breaking their lease at the Metrodome, which would cost the team roughly $5.5 million a year in penalties, the Pioneer Press reported Sunday.

Although Metrodome officials have called it a virtual impossibility, three law professors asked by the Pioneer Press to examine the lease that runs through 2011 say a damages clause gives the Vikings a much stronger lease-busting case than the Minnesota Twins, who had no such provision when a judge last year required them to remain at the Dome.

Vikings owner Red McCombs did not comment on the article. Whether the Vikings would test their case in court is far from certain....

The San Diego Chargers have expressed an interest in relocating there. The Indianapolis Colts, formerly the Baltimore Colts, again are afflicted with wanderlust. The New Orleans Saints are dreaming about the land of milk and honey, too.

And then there is Red McCombs, who leads the league in discontent despite being a relative newcomer to the exclusive owners club. He has been fussing about the Viking's abode since he walked in the front door. Or was it the back door?

Anyway, Red is convinced he can get out of his Metrodome lease. According to various legal experts, he might be able to by paying certain penalty fees.

Even if he does, however, there may a couple of minor glitches on the road to Paradise.
