Pretty simple, you're up and you have taken Patrick Peterson already. You have no trade offers or interest in your pick so a trade down is NOT an option. So who do you select?

It would be between Rudolph (BPA) and need (Maybe Christian Ballard)

I'd take Rudolph because he's the BPA, argruably a need and eventually when FA starts I'd count on Nix being able to sign a stopgap to Alex Carrington at DE next to Dwan Edwards

This is a trick question. I wouldn't be taking a db at 3 as a GM.

I'd have to fire the GM, which in this case would be me.

Then I wouldn't be able to pick at 2, because I just fired myself.

CleveSteve
04-18-2011, 11:27 AM
The last thing you want in a 3-4 is a garbage end people can run over all day. Trust me. The last two guys until round 4 that can man that spot are Ballard and Bailey. Are they worth that pick? I don't think so, but you didn't pick one in the first and you're going to end up starting starting Lawrence Guy when you draft him in the fourth.

OTOH, in our site's interactive mock, all the good tackles (including Franklin, Carpenter, and Cannon) are gone by the end of the 2nd round.

Either way, Buffalo is in a really bad spot here for two positions of dire need. If you want a starter at either of those two positions, you kind of have to reach for one here or likely not get a starter at either position. That's a scary thought.

CleveSteve
04-18-2011, 11:31 AM
I think I end up going with Ijalana or Cannon. There is so much value at ILB later in the draft (Matthews, McCarthy, Wright, Foster, Irving, Sheppard) that you don't really have the luxury of taking Wilson just because he's a few spots off his projected slot.

Peterson is the best player in the draft. Not like we have studs at corner. There solid but theres no studs there. Peterson is a playmaker who can shut people down. I think taking the BPA at #3 is the best situation. I hope Peterson is the guy.

Tough call between Kyle Rudolph and Stephen Paea.

Stephen Paea is the choice. Strong as a bull, good size, good fit for 3-4 end . Should immediately help the run D. ( I doubt he'll be around though)

CleveSteve

I don't think Paea's a good fit. How many starting 5Tech's in the NFL are under 6'2"?

Taking Paea would be a precursor to moving to a 4-3 defense. This move likely makes sense for the Bills due to the dirth of linebacker talent on the roster, and it allows Kyle Williams, the Bills best defender, to play his natural position.

They have stated that they will run a hybrid defense this season. That said, since this is a thread about us being the GM - my viewpoint is that we should move the a 4-3 which is why I proposed selecting Paea or Austin in round 2. I just feel it is a better fit for the talent on the roster.

Kyle Rudolph- TE- Notre Dame

Peterson and Rudolph are both very good players.

Are they going to really make an impact for the Bills next year? How many more games do the Bills win improving CB and TE?

i think Peterson not only becomes a Day 1 starter at CB but an effective weapon on the Special Teams. Rudolph wouldn't seem to have much competition at the TE spot and could possibly start as well.

as for wins, anybody can take their two favorites and probably get the same results.

I have a feeling Rudolph isn't going to be the only one with a red nose by the end of this draft. When you're a Bills fan the draft is like waking up Christmas morning to find your mom sold your presents to buy crack.

CleveSteve
04-18-2011, 04:37 PM
Yeah, you're right. Peterson really would make an impact on 80% of teams in the NFL. I would be hesitant to use him in the return game, though, because he's got so much value on the field. I wouldn't want to risk him getting demolished by some gunner on a punt return.

Rudolph, though... a TE? If you have no DEs, shaky linebackers, one decent OT, and a QB nobody seems to be thrilled with (though I think Fitz is hardly the Bills problem) I don't see how you can take a guy that's not even in every offensive formation with a very high 2nd-round pick. Have you guys given up no Nelson already?

That's just how I see it, though.

CleveSteve
04-18-2011, 04:40 PM

Maybe so, but I think Watt/Jordan and Reed would go much further to improving your squad than Peterson and Rudolph.

*edit* my bad... I forgot in this scenario that Reed is not available

Yep, I've attended the past two years, with this year being my 3rd. The first year I was still with Yahoo! Sports, but last year and this year I will be attending courtesy of NFL.com

Pat Kirwan was talking about him today on Sirius. Says he is a late 2nd round talent that is too stiff. He said he can play the Sam in a 4-3 or even the strong OLB in a 3-4.
