New England Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis seeks consideration to replace Rick Neuheisel as head coach of the University of Washington, according to a report in Friday's Boston Herald.
Neuheisel was terminated from the university after his participation in a college basketball pool.
Washington offensive coordinator Keith Gilbertson, who has been granted supervisory duties over the team, is considered the front-runner for the head-coaching position.
But Weis wants the school to consider him for the post. His agent, Craig Kelly, said that he called the university to let them know of Weis' interest.
"The only thing I was trying to do is say there's interest on our end," Kelly told the Boston Herald. "We put the fish hook in the water to see if we could catch anything."
