    C'mon Cam...

Quarterback Cam Newton, whom most persons think the Panthers take with the first pick in Thursday's draft, didn't stick around for media interviews Wednesday at an NFL-sponsored event in New York City. He did, however, participate in earlier activities with city children, throwing passes and making handoffs to kids who were there. But once the interviews started Newton left.

So what? So that's not the protocol. NFL officials later explained that Newton is an unusual case because, unlike other draft prospects, he paid for his flight here, he's paying for his accomodations here and he's paying for his expenses here. Which means that Newton's on his own -- something he interpreted literally.

But that's the problem. Essentially, Newton demonstrated why some scouts and coaches are wary of the guy -- because, they said, he sometimes does what he wants; listening to advice not from professionals but from the people closest to him. Some persons associated with Wednesday's event suggested that Newton was more interested in doing what he wanted than what he and others were asked to do. Others complied; Newton did not, and that's a team player?

Man, people are going to find ways to nitpick him right down to the end.

I say this, and I don't even want him.

Smart man. Why spend time answering questions when you don't have to?

because all it does is raise doubt about his character, something people are already questioning.

how hard is it to learn the PC answer and sit with a PR specialist who has seen this 1000x and can essentially coach you an answer. This guy is going nowhere professionally.

If the media hounded you with every effort made to throw you under a bus, would you want to talk with them?

Cam always talks about how just going through the process of being drafted is a blessing. Then reports like this come out.

He will be soon the first pick of the draft. Pretty nice accomplishment from someone that worships Satan and bathes in babies blood.

Marty Hurney and Ron Rivera are about to risk their jobs on him.

Seriously I hope he does well. He's an exciting player and as a football fan I love when the NFL gets young dynamic players.

The media is worse than junior high girls. "Wahhh! Cam's ignoring us! Wahhh!" The guy spends times with kid's but ignores the media at one event and that's a character flaw? WTF!

My thought also. He is there to volunteer for kids, if he doesnt feel like talking who cares? Its not going to affect his draft stock, maybe he is tired and wants some time. No one was paying him anything to do it.
True fans want wins, not draft picks.

If that was part of my 6 month plan to get a job that i really want? yes. I'd probably be an honest guy who can talk for myself without putting the job in jeopardy.

but if i had something to hide i'd probably avoid it at all costs. just like he did during this season of college football.

C'mon Trap, that's a little harsh. Do you know what kind of circus these guys are going through with all the media on top of them right before the draft? Maybe he's a bit tired as anyone of us might be from it. As has been said, he wasn't required to talk to the media, so why do it? He's talked to the media plenty. What is he going to say now that is going to change anything? The media is just in frenzy akin to a drop of blood in a shark tank. They will jump on anything right now. I can't blame the guy for trying to avoid them...
