X's day one assessment and lineup for pick 34

    On Dareus:

A safe pick- No real issues to speak of. Huge potential. Low risk, great reward.
A need pick- We all know the run stats. He helps against the run and the pass.
A great value- This guy is one of the best and probably the best player in this draft. He could have gone #1.

    A+

    On where to go now:

QB, ILB, 3-4 OLB, DE, RT... other possibilities: TE, S, NT

Based on need and value at 34:

    1) Da'Quan Bowers- Only if that knee looks OK. Reports are that we think it does. If the knee is OK, were talking about a top 5 pick at 34.
    2) Akeem Ayers- Good value, and a need
    3) Colin Kaepernick- Probably should go in the 2nd, though talk of round 1.
    4) Andy Dalton- See Dalton
    5) Kyle Rudolph- Value more than need
    5) Brooks Reed- Good value, not as good as Ayers
    6) Martez Wilson- Belongs in round 2, big need
    7) Ryan Mallett- If the character is fine, is better than some that went in round 1.

Kaepernick, Dalton,or Mallet will be there in the 3rd.

Keep building the defense will either Bowers, Williams, or Ayers.

Why are the Bills picking 34 and not 35? The Broncos are two picks behind them at 36. How come the order changed for the 2nd round?

        I was wondering that myself.

Tied record swaps spots in each round.

since it has been reported that the bills did clear bowers, they have to take him. he turns our front 4 on passing downs into potentially the best in football.... jmo

I would love to trade down and pick up an extra third or take Ayers or Wilson. Need to shore up the front 7

The aim is to move toward 3-4 not 4-3. We played hybrid last year but I think that was mostly b'cse we didn't have the right personnel. Is Gailey planning on retaining a hybrid defensive scheme?

My understanding is that we are retaining the hybrid system.

With Dareus a 4-3 makes a lot of sense with him and Williams starting on the inside. Could grab a 4-3 end in round 2 - Bowers, Houston, Reed.

They need to ungrade the talent at LB, both outside and inside, if they want to run a 3-4.
