Sources say Robyn Regehr has been asked to waive his no-move clause and accept a trade to the Buffalo Sabres. Details to follow.

Well duh.

Regehr is 10X better than Montador.

This is probably going to cost at least the 16th pick.

Five years ago I would have traded "at least" the 16th pick. The guy is now 31 and barely a plus player the last two years.

Plus can be a deceiving stat.

Put this guy with Myers and it is a shutdown pair.

Rumor is Luke Adam and the 16th pick.

Adam is slow - this would not bother me

I don't think it is deceiving over the course of a season...or two.

Adam? I guess i can live with that, but i had high hopes that he'd be a fourth line center this year and eventually displace gaustad as a guy with a little scoring touch and a lot of physicality. or in otherwords, the player we all wish gaustad would have become.

I watch this team quite often and listen to local sports-talk here:

Regehr: He is well-liked here. Obviously not known for offence, but he was a leader it seemed in the media, as in other players looked to him. He would be a good fit. He is clearly a salary dump for rebuilding. A quiet ...do you work kind of player.

Tangay- he was supposed to be the next big thing and has a more than fair contract to prove it. Never really lived up to expectations. Was called out quite a bit in the media but showed glimpses brilliance but far between at the moment.

Kotalik- horrible horrible horrible... he is the butt of a lot of jokes here as it was a unique situation that allowed him to play some nhl hockey last year.

He'd be a rehab project. He was decent on a terrible Leaf team but hasn't been impressive in Calgary.

It's been over 24 hours and Regehr hasn't waived the clause...I'm betting this isn't happening.

From what I have read, he has talked to Pegula within the last 24 hours and is going to "sleep on it". The fact that he didn't just balk at the idea and say no means he is contemplating actually going through with it. But he certainly could decline but the fact that it is taking him this long is good IMO. There is a lot to think about when you have been in the same place for so long.

"A player who has been in the league for 11 yrs and has been the subject of trade rumors before does not need to do "research" about Buffalo. Cry me a river about "family issues", you are a professional hockey player who makes $4 million/yr and whose wife (and children) certainly enjoys a lifestyle that many women (and kids) dream about............replace "Sabres" with "Flyers" or a few other teams and he'd already have the press conference.

You are union, you live by the contract. He has a no move clause. You'd be the first to complain if you were told to give up something in your contract. He had every right to say no. He just should have done it right away. My wife and I debated for months whether to move across the county...he had every right to stay right where he is.

“I can’t waive unless I see options. I had no options, really, other than this deal. There was never anything other than that. It was a yes or no type thing,” said Regehr, who envisioned a dialogue and the ability to work with the Flames to find a deal that worked for both player and team.

That’s still a possibility.

“It’s a huge, important decision. I just wanted to make sure I explore as many options as possible,” said Regehr, who also didn’t rule out the Sabres in the future after having multiple discussions with GM Darcy Regier over the last few days.

“Darcy Regier has been fantastic,” Regehr said.

“We need to explore all our options. It sounds like Buffalo is great ... but until we see what’s all out there, we can’t make a real good informed decision that we’re comfortable with.”

http://www.calgaryherald.com/technology/Regehr+plays+waiting+game+after+declining+move+Buffalo/5003418/story.html

Jay Feaster asked him to waive his no-movement clause for a trade to Buffalo.

After talking things over with the Sabres, Regehr politely declined.

At least for now.

“I couldn’t find anyone to say anything bad about Buffalo,” Regehr said. “Everyone enjoyed the people, the city. Nobody said anything negative about the city.”

So why the ‘nay’ instead of ‘yay’?

“A huge decision,” Regehr said. “We’d like to look at as many options as we can. We didn’t feel comfortable (with just one scenario.)

“I just told Jay that I’d like to see more options. Jay said it was only Buffalo.”

That, according to Feaster, is because Buffalo was the only option.

“I did ask Robyn to waive his no-move for a deal to Buffalo,” Feaster told TSN. “He has indicated he has given it a lot of thought and he’d like to see what options exist. It remains to be seen where we go in terms of options.

“The reason options weren’t presented to him is because we had a deal with Buffalo that made sense. We didn’t have a deal anywhere else. So we’ll have to see what transpires in the next little while.”

Ill take that!

Kotalik was making $3 million a year. That better not be on the Sabres' cap roll

Sportsnet Radio here nor the Herald are reporting Ennis yet, I just find it hard to believe. Q77 is basically a traffic/news station.

Calgary is clearing $7m in cap space ($3m of which is useless), they won't be getting much in return - maybe a mid level pospect and one of our fringe D-men.

today has been a really interesting day for the flames. Feaster was the "filling in GM" when sutter left and just recently got the blessing to stay on. The team is full of hollow high end contracts that are crippling him from doing anything to put his stamp. Regehr being a guy who is a fan favourite (tough, gritty, been a flame forever) who was representative of the old regime. His large contract is the kicker. However, the flames pulled a really weird move getting into the talks for Ryan Smyth....really? above 6mill- over 35 player? And your "dumping" Regehr? Today was a blast :wtf:

“I couldn’t find anyone to say anything bad about Buffalo,” Regehr said earlier in the day. “Everyone enjoyed the people, the city. Nobody said anything negative about the city.”

So why the initial ‘nay’ instead of ‘yea’?

“A huge decision,” Regehr said. “We’d like to look at as many options as we can. We didn’t feel comfortable (with just one scenario.)

For all the anger we have at reiger, his trade terms are always 100x better than the fans. We had people giving up first round picks and ennis. But the real trade seems to net us a pick and Part with 2 guys we could live without

what a bunch of whiners.

"waaaaaaaaaaaa, he should have accepted the trade right away"
"waaaaaaaaaaaa, Buffalo is sucky area"
"waaaaaaaaaaaa, he wants to go to a better team"

Freaking guy has a no move contract and has to waive it to get traded. So what if he wanted to see what else could come his way if he waited a day or two. It's not like free agency is tomorrow. Maybe he wanted to see if a team that was on the cusp of a Stanley Cup wanted him. Maybe other teams finding out that he was available would spur more talk. He has played in the league for a number of years and signed a contract with a no movement clause so that he could have a little say in what happens to him. Why crucify him for taking that option?

Now it looks like he will be ours. This is GREAT news if he is anything close to what he has been for much of his career. I have been hoping for a big bruising defenseman for years. This is a guy that Meyers will learn from and will help keep Miller a little more safe in the net. Plus, as a friend from where I work pointed out, he seems much more durable than Bieksa, who was considered the top defenseman in free agency. This is a fantastic move going forward. Getting Kotalik isn't horrible, and is the type of move teams that have deep pockets have always made in the past.

As for compensation, none of the names that have made the rounds would kill me. Even Ennis, who I like wouldn't kill me, nor Adam. These are young guys who still haven't proven a whole lot in the NHL yet. Ennis had a nice rookie season, but disappeared at times. I would like to see a little more of his hero Briere out of him. I don't know if he is a future superstar or not, but I do like him.

Let's not get too dramatic. It's a win for the Sabres but Calgary was looking for a quick salary dump.

A very good trade, at this point. Sabres gave up little for a legit top 2-4 D-man. Kotalik could be experienced depth AND the extra #2 in 2012 just gives us another asset to acquire help at C

kotalik i think will just be TC fodder then sent down to the farm.... which his name recognition might be good for the amerks to win back fans "jilted" by the split with buffalo a few years ago.

Calgary can have Butler, he chocked bigtime in the series against philly

http://www.billszone.com/fanzone/showpost.php?p=3450324&postcount=1

So We got rid of a liability, and brought in a decent top 20 Dman,

If Kots makes the team out of camp, thats more Shootout wins and 5 on 3 goals.

Anyone Else notice, we have Half of Calgary's Defensive core that took them to Game 7 of he Finals in 2004?
