The Buffalo Sabres have selected Assat RW Joel Armia with the 16th pick of the 2011 NHL draft. A pure scorer, the 6'3, 191-pound Armia scored 18 goals and 29 points as a 17-year old this past season with Assat of the Finnish Elite League.

Armia is a great skater with an amazing set of hands and excellent creativity. A player who could've gone anywhere from 10-20, his combination of size and offense are a most welcome addition to the Sabres prospect ranks. Sniper city.

Most are focused on Regehr and for good reason, but this seems like a nice pick for the teams pipeline.

I'm not going to pretend that I follow the NHL draft anywhere near the level of the NFL, or that I even know a single tidbit about Armia, but I do know I like the size and apparent skill set of this kid. Hopefully after a few seasons on the farm he can turn into something.

He has 2 years left on his Finnish contract, and he's only 17, so it will be at least two (though probably three years) till he even has a shot at Buffalo.

Not sure if the NHL has the same agreement with Finland that they do with Sweden where a player can void the final year of their contract if they make team.

They gave him a jersey with #11 on it...I understand why but I don't like it.

It was actually a 9/11 jersey Im pretty sure. If you look at the video Hammer posted when he puts it on, I think there is a 9 on one of the shoulders.

Well, that's not good. Willingness to give out hits or scrum it up in corners is kind of hard to teach.
