From sportsnet.ca:

Nick Kypreos: #Sabres will soon announce Ehroff deal. Keep in mind he turned down big #Isles offer. It a deal believed to be between 5 -5.5M on aav.

They probably don't even have to beat the Islanders' offer. Being a superior organization and market would make the difference

Defenceman Christian Ehrhoff has agreed to terms with the Buffalo Sabres, signing a contract believed to be a 10 year, $40 million deal.

Leaves Plenty of room for Richards

Holy crap ... he gave the Sabres a discount (if true)

Discount on a per year average against the cap...we have no clue how the deal is structured...he might be getting $10mil this year for all we know.

Cap is all that matters to me. Beyond that, it's Terry's money, not mine

Brad Richards here we come!

I seriously think Richards will be a Sabres by Saturday

i wonder if this deal will make it past the league office

18M in the first 2 years, and 3M in the final three is a little ridiculous. lol

he is only signed until he's 38, unlike the kovalchuk deal (44)... so hopefully it goes through.

BUF's 10-year, $40M contract with Christian Ehrhoff does not violate any aspect of the CBA is a valid deal in the eyes of the NHL.

His salary only drops in the last two years. The signing bonuses skew the balance early. The base salary is pretty much the same all the way through.

I hate to sound greedy, but I wish Pegula would buy the Bills. I love what I see from this guy. Not even a month in, we already have signed a top end defender & another solid defensemen as well. If Brad Richards is signed this is a very solid squad, and an immediate Stanley Cup contender. Either way, the message is clear that Pegula wants to upgrade talent, and isn't afraid to spend the duckets.

I'm confused- what does this do to this year's cap?

This deal also makes him tradeable in a few years if things don't pan out or if we need cap space for even better options down the road.

yep. at the end of the deal he'll be getting paid 1M, but will still be a 4M cap hit....great for teams trying to reach the salary floor.

there's not a bad thing about this deal imo. it's not like i'm the one paying 18 million in two years.

The only bad thing about all this is his name isn't Bobby Orr

Hell- give Meyers the same deal right now

This may actually be the deal that sets the table for Myers contract, structure wise.
