Titans near deals with O’Donnell, Hentrich

The Titans last night were on the verge of reaching contract agreements with punter Craig Hentrich and backup quarterback Neil O'Donnell, and at least one of the players could be on the practice field as early as today.

Also, the Titans are closing in on a deal for rookie offensive lineman Todd Williams, their seventh-round draft pick from Florida State.

Titans General Manager Floyd Reese, who has had numerous discussions over the past few weeks on the deals for Hentrich, O'Donnell and center Gennaro DiNapoli, said yesterday he would be ''disappointed'' if at least one those players was not signed by Thursday, when the Titans wrap up their June minicamp.

Talks between Reese and Hentrich's agent, Marvin Demoff, entered the final stages last night. Hentrich's deal is expected to be for six years, which would keep the veteran punter under contract through the 2008 season. Hentrich's signing bonus is expected to be between $1.3 million and $1.5 million.

O'Donnell's deal will likely be for two years with base salaries in the $700,000-$900,000 range

Titans re-sign backup O'Donnell, punter Hentrich

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Neil O'Donnell returned to the Titans on Tuesday four months after the quarterback was cut, giving Tennessee a veteran backup as insurance for Steve McNair.

O'Donnell, who had been let go in a salary-cap move, signed a two-year contract. He will be on the field Wednesday and Thursday as the Titans conclude their offseason workouts.

The Titans also signed punter Craig Hentrich to a multiyear contract. The terms of both contracts were not released....

Titans re-sign Hentrich to multi-year contract

Tennessee Titans GM Floyd Reese reached deeper into the free agent market Tuesday afternoon, signing a veteran who was at the top of the team’s wish list.

Punter Craig Hentrich will remain a Titan. He signed a multi-year contract with the team on Tuesday and could be in minicamp as early as Wednesday.

He became the second free agent signing of the day for the Titans. QB Neil O’Donnell resigned with the team earlier on Tuesday after being released in February. O’Donnell signed for two-years. Terms were not disclosed...more

Hentrich happy to be back with Titans

They don’t call Drew Bennett “Sunshine” for nothing. The third-year wide receiver out of UCLA had plenty to glow about Wednesday when he was partially relieved from one of his dirtiest duties.

Bennett had been the primary holder for K Joe Nedney while P Craig Hentrich tested the free agent pool. Hentrich signed a six-year contract Tuesday afternoon and returned to practice Wednesday morning.

Bennett could not have been happier....
