Use the money we saved on not signing Whitner to bring Heap in. Whitner can tweet about that all he wants.

FWIW, they will also be cutting Gregg and Mason.

You've got to think the Bills will have a shot at one of the decent TEs that should be available. Heap being added to the mix, is a pleasant surprise tbh.

Why would he need to be cheap? Get him. When is the last time we had a good T.E.?

I agree.
If the Bills don't go after a TE then that just tells me Chan doesn't like to utilize the TE at all.......Not a bad or good thing.....

Heap is old, and injury-prone...Spend that money on someone worth it. :peace:

Looks like Ravens will attempt to resign Heap at a lesser contract.

Heap is always hurt and I'm not sure if you guys noticed, but even minimum salary for a veteran like Heap is still almost $1Million, not including a signing bonus. Even when he's been on the field, which hasn't been often, his effectiveness is sporadic. If the Bills want to upgrade the TE position, which most of us would heavily agree with, it should be with someone younger and healthier.
Considering the Bills have a minimum cap number to get to, I'd love to see them spend on a guy like Zach Miller or Mercedes Lewis.

Zach Miller just got linked to Buffalo as a receiving TE by ESPN.

It's an Insider article but it lists him as a best fit

Zach Miller? I wish, but it will never happen.

How's his neck? I'd be concerned about injuries.

Zach Miller? I wish, but it will never happen. Is that an open ended response meant to cover you either way?

I say screw it, let's start spending, let's get him.

No thanks on Heap. 5 years ago, yes. Now, he'll be on IR by week 3. Again.

He would add depth to our ir list. That's about it

he caught for 599 yds and 5 tds last year . Any of our durable TEs make those nos. in recent years?

I'll take those nos from a often injured player. he can rotate with Chandler for all I care.

The problem is, Buffalo's TEs have to stay in and help pass protect so much, they can't run routes.

The other problem is that Chan Gailey doesn't know what a tight end is.

TE's with good hands/route running capabilities often times requires extra attention from the defense so it works both ways in my opinion.

The inability to work the middle of the football field properly is and has been a glaring problem for the Buffalo Bill offense for years now. I don't want to hear, well, Chan Gailey doesn't like to use the TE much in the passing game. Bills signal callers have gone far to long without a TE security blanket.

Not having good TE's while in the process of developing QB's is stupidity.
