Linebacker Shawne Merriman sat out practice again on Saturday with what coach Chan Gailey said was soreness in his leg but not related to his recent knee and Achilles problems.

I saw the same thing. But I think I speak for most of us, who have been holding our collective breath, in saying that any injury associated with Merriman is cause for concern.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

Just got back from getting the paper, and saw that also. Hopefully they are just being a little bit precautionary and holding him out of pads/contact for a couple of weeks.

If he stays healthy, it's not like he has anything to prove on the practice field, plus it gets younger guys more reps.

Gailey said he's holding out any guys with minimal amount of soreness, even if they could go. Can't blame him, since the season doesn't start for another 5 weeks and 4 pre-season games have yet to be played.

I read little if anything into this.

Spoke with Donald. He had been kicked in the calf and was really sore, so they held him out, but he says he's ok.
