So the Bills are considering trading Lee Evans for a third round pick or lower...
Here we go again.

When are the Bills going to realize that VERY FEW picks below the first or second round work out. Yet they are willing to trade a starter for it. And in a year or two, he will need to be replaced too.

Just look at our running back position and you will see what I mean.

1) Back in 2002, we had a very productive running game with a young Travis Henry. Over 1700 yards from scrimmage. 14 touchdowns. Pro Bowl appearance. But the Bills, trying to outsmart the rest of the NFL, neglected their biggest needs to draft another running back in the first round with Willis McGahee.

2) Having McGahee's potential on the roster not only took Henry off the field, but also made him expendable. His value drops to a point that all we can get is a third round pick. That pick is later used to help trade up for John McCargo.

3) McGahee plays good for a few years, then starts to tail off. Again, the Bills make a trade for mid-round picks (3rd & 7th in 2007, 3rd in 2008). Those picks turn into Trent Edwards, CJ Ah You and ammunition in acquiring Marcus Stroud.

4) Trading McGahee leaves a gaping hole at running back, forcing the Bills to draft Marshawn Lynch with their first round pick. Lynch is solid, but is outperformed by Fred Jackson and splits time starting.

5) Obviously not learning from their mistake in 2003, the Bills draft another running back (CJ Spiller) in the first round when they don't need one. Lynch is no longer needed, so the Bills trade him for a fourth round pick in 2011 and sixth round pick in 2012. Spiller racks up 440 yards from scrimmage during hsi rookie year.

6) The fourth round pick is used to draft tackle Chris Hairston

So here is how all those trades worked out at the running back position:

BILLS GAVE AWAY
3 first round picks on running backs
An additional second (2006 for McCargo) and fifth (2008 for Stroud)
8 years of running back play that was below Travis Henry's 2002 season

BILLS RECEIVED
CJ Spiller and Chris Hairston (still on the roster)
John McCargo, Trent Edwards, CJ Ah You, Marcus Stroud (gone)
2012 sixth round pick
