For everyone complaining that the Evans trade means the Bills aren't committed to winning...how many wins is he worth? Did we go from being a 4-win team to a 3-win? Is he worth 1 win or 10? How many wins did he get us last year?

Is WAR a stat in football as it is in Baseball? Does anyone know?

With him keeping defenses honest on every offensive play, I'd say he's worth at least 2-3 wins.

The only thing keeping me level-headed (at least somewhat) about this is the fact that they must really, really like Jones and Easley (in addition to Nelson) as far as the young guys go.

It'll be, at the very least, exciting watching new guys grow up together into big roles.

To answer your question, I think we lack someone that can at least threaten the field vertically. Easley might be able to, but he can't even stay healthy yet.

That being said, I don't think he's worth even a win one way or the other if last year is any indication.

How many wins did he get us last year?I could see two more losses without him. Stevie will be double teamed and the O won't be able to score enough points against really tough teams.

Put it this way, the offense overall could be worse so unless the defense is that much better to make up the difference, it will mean a few losses.

So you think if we subtracted Evans from our team last year we'd have had 1-2 wins? That's an enormous amount of wins for one player, in my opinion.

So last year Evans was double teamed and Stevie broke out. What makes you think Steve being double teamed won't allow someone else to break out?

Determining how many wins each player is worth in this total team sport is completely out of touch and irrelevant. There is no way to put a number on an added dimension Evans gives to the team.

Maybe, maybe not. If people are going to complain that the Bills aren't committed to winning, then it would be nice to know how many wins they think Evans is worth. If they're going to have the same number of wins either way, then I don't think you can say that OBD isn't committed to winning.

How many wins did he get us last year? How many wins is Evans Worth? Well that depends on a few things. Can Roscoe stay healthy? Is Stevie Johnson as good as he thinks, or we think he can be? is our receiving game going to be good enough to stop defenses from stacking 8 in the box again which will nullify our running game? Can Gailey get the locker room back after losing one of its veteran leaders, one every player on the team had enormous amounts of respect for? These all need to be answered before we know how damaging the Lee Evans trade may be in my opinion.

Last year 2 of their 4 wins were without Evans.

They went .200 with him and .500 without him.

And if Evans had stayed, we could put a couple more questions out there: will Evans be able to stay healthy the whole time (he missed games last year for the first time in a long time), and is he even a fit in Gailey's offense? Will we be able to get the ball to him on deep routes with a crappy OL?

Here's a good measure. Vegas put the O/U at 5.5 wins for us this year before Evans was traded. If we get 4 or fewer wins, I'd say people have a case that Evans cost us some wins. Otherwise, it was about what was expected.

Well here is one more question for you. Without Evans to stretch the field, how many games will the Bills see 8 in the box thus making the running game & short passing game less effective?

First round pick, class act, decent leadership, AVERAGE yearly stats at best, declining production since 2006= Expendable!

Take a look at how many other teams had poor offenses but still had a very productive #1 receiver. Detroit=Johnson, Houston=Johnson, Arizone=Fitzgerald, Bengals=Ochocinco, Panthers=Smith...

I hate losing a nice guy and some stability in the locker room but come on guys, it's not that bad. It's not like Lee was all world. He would have commanded a better draft pick in return if that was the case. Don't blame his line or QB or coaching carousel because these guys listed above have dealt with similar environments and they thrive!

That is the difference between a team like the Bills & the Pats*. The Bills dump players with value like Lynch & Evans for a 4th rnd pick while the Pats* get a 3rd rnd pick for a player with no value like Moss.

It will depend on who steps up.. We oculd lose 1 or 2 games or we could win 1 or 2 more games.

Lee was very 1 dimensional, and I don't think it will be hard ot replace his production the last 2 years. Lee had TO and only produced 44 catches.. Lee had Steve Johnson tearing it up and only produced 33 reception albeit in only 13 games.

It comes down to Easley, Nelson, Jones, Roosevelt, and Davis... by preseason game 3 we should have a better feel for that

How many wins do you think Baltimore's 2012 4th round draft choice will muster?

A lot more had they kept it as trust Baltimore's front office to make draft picks than ours.

I don't know about that. They picked Cody & Kindle last year & I think both are busts.

When Evans was doubled all the time and needed that extra safety on him it opened our run game........oh wait.

Wasn't aware Baltimore's 2012 fourth rounder was inserted into the starting line-up in place of Evans already.

What uniform # did they give him?

He hasn't been, but Evans is not in the starting line-up either, so I think he will be as responsible for as many wins as Evans is this year myself.

Nix said he would not trade Evans unless it improved the team. Well I still am waiting for an explanation how a LOW 4th rnd pick NEXT YEAR improves this team NOW. I have serious doubts about next year & into the future as well.

They already moved him to the practice squad. A 5'8" 160 lb. CB from Cornerbacks R US State.

Supposed to be a hell of a kick returner.

Should be ready in about 3 years.

 at this thread.

We were a 4 win football team last year, who cares if Lee Evans was responsible for even 1 of those wins, I'm betting he wasn't.

We sucked with Lee, we'll suck without him. A 30 year old declining WR is not someone you rebuild a team around.

A 30 year old WR with good hands & SPEED is worth way more than a 4th rnd pick for a team that is good but needs a WR, that is the point.

The point is by the time this team becomes relevant again Lee wouldn't have been here anymore anyways, so you move him while someone still thinks he has some value and then trust you can make the right football decision with the pick you got from him.

You also trust that another of your WRs can step up and replace 37 catches 500 yards. Which honestly, shouldn't be too hard.

I honestly think come week 10 everyone is gonna realize that trading away Lee was a good football decision and didn't make this team any worse. But we shall see on that.

No point in repeating but I will, it is not about the numbers last year, it is about Evans ABILITY & the fact his value was for MUCH MORE than a 4th.

The Pats* got a 3rd from the Vikings last year for Moss & he is out of the NFL now. So Evans should have at least been worth that & really he is worth more than that to a team like the Ravens.

I would love to play poker with Nix, he would fold with 3 Queens while I had a pair of Jacks.

And the Pats only traded a 5th and a 6th to Bengals for Chad Ochocinco Johnson Whatever He's Going To Be Called Now.

85 is a better WR than Evans and I'd say the two trades are pretty much equal value wise.

Moss was traded to the Pats in 07 for a 4th rounder. Also a better WR than Evans, even then.

So how does Evans have more value than either of those two WRs?

Well, going back to our OL discussion, you seem to think that all it takes is to trade a 4th rounder + our second to get a top quality OL, so who knows what it might be worth?

Well, we won't. Another one of Buddy's things, not trading up.

Accept it. If they do use it on an OT, the guy will probably be the 10th -12th best tackle in the draft.

Accept it. Lee Evans was traded for the next Ed Wang or the next Reggie Corner.

I'm pretty sure the consensus was that they were going to trade up in the 2010 draft but got outbid by Denver. Don't think the two drafts proves much of anything in terms of trading up or not doing so.

And at this point we have UDFA's that could put up the stats that Evans has the last two years. Maybe it will turn into a bust, maybe it won't.

I'm pretty sure Nix denied it.

Catching 5 yard comeback patterns? Probably. You were a Trent Edwards fan, I can just sense it.

Maybe it will turn into a bust, maybe it won't.

That's comforting.

How's Ed Wang been playing, btw?

Not sure why I should care since he was a 5th round pick.

I didn't like the value either. But I didn't think the trade was a reason to commit suicide, though, like most people on here.

It's not a great comparison. Minny knew they had 1 season to try to win with Favre and they were desperate. And Moss is/was a better player than Evans. <shrug>

I think a 4th was about right. Anyway we can't force teams to offer more than they want to pay. Unless you think we declined better offers which I'm sure you don't it was a 4th or hold onto Evans and cut someone we think could actually help when we have a chance of being competitive. I think they did the right thing. Good luck Lee.

I think it is a great comparison myself. While the Ravens have more time to win, Evans is also much younger & does not have Moss's baggage. Moss was not a better player last year than Evans is.

Are you saying there is no other player the Bills could have cut that would have helped less than Evans? How do you guys expect the team to improve when they GIVE AWAY talented players for NOTHING?
