    Patriots Release OL Mark LeVoir

    DO Bills need him ??

In what can be seen as a somewhat surprising move, the New England Patriots have announced the release of veteran offensive lineman Mark LeVoir.
LeVoir, 29, was originally claimed off waivers in 2008 from the St. Louis Rams. That year, he played in all sixteen games, making two spot starts, and performing pretty well. Although his role was limited the last two seasons, LeVoir was solid when he saw the field, and also played on special teams.
Last week, I had LeVoir making the Patriots based on my 53 man roster projection. The reason: LeVoir can play both tackle spots and was also working in at guard this training camp.

An OL that can play BOTH OT spots on top of the possibility of playing OG and special teams?

Sign me up... Being so versatile would be a BIG plus on our offensive line.

Not familiar with the name, but like his versatility. Again, better than Urbik

I like his versatility too. Even if he can't start, I'd feel a lot better about him being the back-up instead of Wang.

Certainly would like to sign this guy.

I'm pretty sure we have 3 available roster spots. Would be nice to use them.

We're down to dregs, but Patriot dregs are probably better than some of our starters.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

                Can anyone clue us in?

It wouldn't hurt to have a guy that might be able to give us some insight to the Pats offense too.

He sounds half decent. Surprised the Pats said au Levoir.

I posted this in another thread yesterday:

Pats just released OT Mark LeVoir. Tall tackle who has been a swing tackle for them the last 3 years. He started 2 games because of injuries in 2008 as well. He has been well-coached and has pretty good technique. Not a mauler in the run game, but does a good job in pass protection and has experience at LT and RT.

I think someone will claim him on waivers and pick up his salary this year ($670K). Pats liked him, but they have Vollmer, drafted Solder, re-signed Light and had Steve Maneri (a converted TE) show a lot of promise (played great in first preseason game). Still, a solid depth OT who can help a team that is OL-needy.

Just a decent depth player who got caught in a numbers game, and I think the team is releasing him early to give him a chance to catch on with a team. Pats liked him over the last few years.

He got beat for the 4th OT spot by Steve Maneri, a converted college TE who is younger and has played real well this year in camp. Maneri was claimed off waivers by the Pats (from Hou) and kept on the roster for 3 weeks. They then cut him and re-signed him to the PS. Pats love converted college TE as project OT, they have had several of them (Solder converted in college).
