    Carrington at OLB

The Bills are looking at DE Alex Carrington as a pass-rushing linebacker.

No disrespect but isn't this old news ?

He's been standing up outside in some formations for the last couple weeks at camp.

This is just what they said they were going to do, using a hybrid 34/43. Carrington's role would basically be an end in a quasi-43.

They talked about him lining up in Kelsay's position in the 34 occasionally.

He's a pretty heavy guy but as long as he keeps up with somebody, anybody, in pass coverage, it'd bean improvement on Kelsay.

Not big on the idea when it first came out, and still not. I'd prefer traditional LBers in the 34. Can't remember anything specific from the Chicago game to point to, but anybody that size is going to have difficulty chasing to the outside or covering medium routes whether they are in zone or man.

Let him play in the regular rotation at DE and let the LBers play LBer. Kelsay should just be a passing down specialist and special teamer.

Does anyone else thinks that maybe this gives too much away? The opposing O knows we won't drop him into coverage, so they know where the rush ins coming from and where the hole in the pass coverage will be.

My guess is that this stems from having good DL's and bad OLB's, so they are trying to get the best 11 on the field as much as possible, but it may come at a price.

Gailey said they'll try to drop him into coverage to keep teams honest, but lets be real Carrington will be just like Chris Kelsay.

If anything Carrington will probably get more looks when we're in a 4-3 look. By 4-3 I mean Williams at the 1 tech, and Dareus at the 3 or vice versa.

Everyone knows what guys like Merriman are going to be doing most of the time. The key is to put him in obvious situations but to still mix it up every once in awhile. He'll probably be in there to set up the edge on the strong side and push pass blockers back to breakdown the pocket.

"He's doing a really nice job of rush outside," Gailey said. "You're only going to show him every now and then dropping. That's not what he does. You do it just enough to create indecision sometimes. He's a big load on the edge, and he's got good speed for a man his size. He's been an interesting project during the course of camp."
