TAMPA - Bucs defensive tackle Anthony McFarland, an emerging star entering the final year of his contract, is optimistic he will report to training camp July 18 with a new deal.
McFarland, 25, is scheduled to earn a base salary of $2.25 million this fall. Because of a broken forearm and a fractured foot, he played in only two of Tampa Bay's final 13 games during the Bucs' Super Bowl run.

``I'd like to get this behind me before we go to Orlando,'' McFarland said Tuesday at a Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce luncheon. ``I think we can work things out in the next few weeks.'' ...more (http://bucs.tbo.com/bucs/MGA2TTNOCHD.html)

While Bucs defensive tackle Warren Sapp has chosen to voice his displeasure with the lack of a new contract privately, linemate Anthony "Booger" McFarland is taking his own quest for the coin public.

According to the Tampa Tribune, McFarland wants to have a contract extension in place before reporting to training camp next month.

"I'd like to get this behind me before we go to Orlando,'' McFarland said Tuesday. "I think we can work things out in the next few weeks."

The sound bite from Booger's agent, Karl Bernard, was more ominous. "We have to determine if the contract offered by the Bucs is enough . . . for Anthony to forego potential free agency. For Anthony, it's important to get this done before camp. Having this uncertainty loom over your head as you begin practicing to defend a championship is something Anthony would like to avoid.''

The Bucs likely can't afford to keep both Sapp and McFarland, and speculation throughout the league is that the Bucs ultimately will not retain Sapp -- unless he drops his contract demands significantly.

The sides agree on a total amount but the Bucs want to backload a four-year deal for their defensive tackle.
TAMPA - Negotiations between the Bucs and the representative for defensive tackle Anthony McFarland have hit a snag, agent Karl Bernard said Wednesday.

With the basic parameters of a six-year deal in place, Bernard said he and the Bucs appear to have a significant disagreement over the disbursement of the money. Terms of the proposed deal were not disclosed.

McFarland, 25, is in the final year of his contract and is due $2.25-million this season. The Bucs have made it clear they would like to re-sign McFarland to a long-term deal before he becomes a free agent when his contract expires....

Bucs ink run-stuffer McFarland to five-year extension
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took another step toward keeping the NFL's stingiest defense together Tuesday, signing nose tackle Anthony McFarland to a five-year contract extension worth $34 million over the next six seasons.
