I would pick the Chief's because it is their home opener but wouldn't be surprised either way.

I have no false expectations on how bad this team will be, but if you read my article (which you probably didn't), you'd know i have almost no respect for Todd Haley and his chiefs. My excerpt from my pre-season predictions:

Week 1 @ KC- 1-0 – Bills win A team that needs 5 quarters to beat the Bills at home last year isn’t very good. The Bills, as bad as they are, still are rebuilding, whereas the Chiefs for some reason have this Jauron-ian viewpoint that they are close. As a result, we will win this game. The magical luster of the season opener will completely wear off by the middle of the second quarter when you are looking at the score tracker below. “How is this the only game that is scoreless?” “We punted the ball 6 times before the end of the half?” “KC punted 5 times? Against this defense?” “Moorman doesn’t look like a stud punter anymore.” You will say “same old Bills” when they go to the locker room down 6-0. You will jump up and down trying to remember when the Bills were 1-0 last when Stevie Johnson runs a sweet crossing pattern touchdown to win 7-6. I’ll write that I hate this team. You’ll write me saying, “are you ever happy?” I’ll say, “wait for it.” You won’t write back.

The chiefs have a false sense of "almost being there" but they truly aren't even close. like thurm said, i could see it going either way but it will be a bore fest.

The only reason that game last year was even close was because Cassel laid a giant egg. He improved remarkably in the second half of the season.

We dominated you in all other phases of the games so if Cassel picks up where he left off I feel confident in saying the Bills are going to get a beat down.

you know i'd trash talk you for having to go to overtime to beat a 4-12 ****-fest of a football team last year, but then... yeah... i'd be trash talking a loss by us.

How about this. Your team scares the hell out of me. They're so mediocre and lame, and probably so overconfident i can easily foresee us meeting in 3 weeks, and the Bills walking out with a win, to give this ****ty team a little hope, so that they play over themselves for the first half of the year... collect 4 or so pointless wins, lose out and end 4-12, and 1 or 2 wins out of getting Luck.

The Chiefs are so lame i'm terrified we might eak out an undeserving win (they remind me of the Bengals of last year, anyone who watched them the previous season could tell it was just dumb luck, a perfect schedule and the stars aligning perfect, which sums up that chiefs team from last year perfect), securing yet another miserable pointless season, while your team will probably rebound, seeing it's only real competition is SD, and they're so schizophrenic you might strike gold twice in two years and see the NFL playoffs yet again, something we've not seen in over a decade.

I'm going to say something i never thought i'd say in nearly 40 years as a diehard bills fan. I hope to god your team kicks the **** out of us, because this team's going no where this year, and i hope to god we don't steal any pointless wins from pretenders like the chiefs; the chances of us getting luck (or a high enough pick we can sniff at another can't miss game changer that this FO can't f-up and screw us out of) is pretty thin as it is with having to play those crappy fins 2x this year, not to mention the laughably bad AFC West... meanwhile the freaking Bengals have the look of an 0-16 team in them. ****** bengals.

well that's the pessimist in me. Personally i'm still too much of a bills fan to truly hope for a loss, i'd love to kick the cheifs around. But deep down i know i'll just be enjoying a temporary stay from the pain and agony this year is going to bring.

I just can't take too many more season like this last decade has served us.

btw: Jamaal Charles is one hell of a back. Without him your team doesn't win 5 games last year. That's how big he was for you.

Last year KC went 10 - 6.

Their 10 Wins:

- SD (21 - 14)
- Cle (14 - 12)
- SF (31 - 10)
- Jax (42 - 20)
- Buf (13 - 10)
- Ari (31 - 13)
- Sea (42 - 24)
- Den (10 - 6)
- StL (27 - 13)
- Ten (34 - 14)

Their 6 losses:

- Ind (19 - 9)
- Hou (35 - 31)
- Oak (23 - 20)
- Den (49 - 29)
- SD (31 - 0)
- Oak (31 - 10)

That has to be the softest schedule in recent history. They beat a total of 1 playoff team, that being the 7 - 9 Seattle team that may be the weakest team to ever make the playoffs.

And you are talking trash? Seriously?

Oh, yeah, then they got obliterated by the Ravens 30 - 7 in their one playoff game. You shouldn't be talking trash to anyone.

I find it amusing that nobody (well, those who are particularly down on the team and Nix) gives the FO credit for drafting Dareus. Was it the obvious choice? Heck yeah. And how many times in the past have we seen the FO screw up even the most obvious choices? Gee, all the time. So I think it's a damn decent step in the right direction to be able to pick the obvious guy instead of the fliers like Gabbert.

You just know that if Jauron were still here, we'd be looking at Patrick Peterson running with the second string right now. I'd say the front office deserves a little credit for going with the front 7 for four out of our six picks in the top 3 rounds for the past 2 drafts.

Our defense was good last year and only got better this offseason.

PS - bringing up last year's schedule is dumb, this isn't the same team and if you look up and down the roster you will see so much young talent it will make you sick.

Last year was a mirage. It was a product of playing in a weak division and getting to play 4 games against the NFC West, which was the weakest division in recent memory.

Yet, in spite of playing the weakest schedule since the AFL-NFL merger, the Chiefs were middle of the pack on defense (14th in Yards, 11th in Pts Allowed) and offense (12th in Yards, 14th in points). They were a middling team in spite of playing an incredibly soft schedule, which was why they got crushed when they finally played a real team in the Playoffs.

Seriously, be real. You are in no position to talk trash. The Chiefs run the ball well and... well, that is about it. They aren't outstanding really anywhere else. They are a middle-of-the-pack team that has to play a real schedule this year.

Instead of the NFC West, they now get to play the NFC North. Their out-of-division schedule includes Ind, Pit and the Jets. As I am sure you are well aware, they only won because of the out-of-division schedule was so easy, because they went 2-4 in division. Beat the Raiders once before you talk some trash.

It will all come crashing back to earth for you this year, and you will get to watch other teams play in the playoffs. I'm sure you will still be in your footy pajamas and dreaming about all that "young talent". What a joke.

You could be right, bro.

Even so, there is a ton of young talent on the Chiefs....just look at the roster and you can see it. Probably the best young secondary in the league.

Our only real weakness last year was a lackluster receiving corps....and that was our achilles heel in the playoffs. That 30-7 score looks bad but it was a close game (16-7) until the 4th quarter.

Either way, mirage or not, I don't see the Bills as much of a match at Arrowhead.

I know it's only pre season, but your Defense hasn't looked too great giving up 70 points to those Offensive powerhouses such as the Rams, Ravens, and Bucs. Also if there's an Offense that looks worse than the BILLS right now it's the Chiefs.

Ickybaluky
08-27-2011, 08:15 AM
Even so, there is a ton of young talent on the Chiefs....

I love that phrase, "ton of young talent". All that means is they have a lot of guys who you think are going to be really good, but they haven't actually produced like it yet. At the end of the day, it is how they perform, and right now the Chiefs have a few real good players and a bunch of guys. They are a middle-of-the-pack team in the NFL.

The Chiefs had a good season last year against a ridiculously easy schedule, but failed to get one quality win against a good team. They got crushed in the playoffs. Really, they aren't a team that should look past anyone.

Our only real weakness last year was a lackluster receiving corps....and that was our achilles heel in the playoffs. That 30-7 score looks bad but it was a close game (16-7) until the 4th quarter.

That was anything but a close game, KC had no shot no matter the score. They were out-gained in that game 390 - 161. Bal was 10-for-18 on 3rd and 4th down conversions, while KC was 1-for-10. Bal had 26 first downs to KC's 8. It wasn't like turnovers were the difference, as both teams had 2.

If anything, that game was not a close as the score. KC's offense for the day was one poorly-defensed play that Charles ran for a long TD. It is a miracle they scored at all.

Either way, mirage or not, I don't see the Bills as much of a match at Arrowhead.

Of course you don't, because you are part of the footy-pajama set who can't see your team objectively. What they are in your mind and what they are in reality are two separate things.

KC is not a good enough offensive team to overwhelm teams, and the Bills actually match up pretty well. First of all, Buffalo will be much tougher to run on this year after beefing up their front-7. This isn't the same Bills team that gets pushed around and gives up 200 yards rushing. Their #1 goal this offseason was the strengthen their run defense. They are big up front and much harder to push around.

Second, KC's 3-4 defense is a physical up-front team that you need to spread out. That is what the Bills do on offense under Gailey, they will spread the field and mix in the run and pass. That will force KC to go nickel or dime, or have their big 3-4 LB try to match up with WR.

Really, the key to this game will be if Buffalo can protect the passer. Their OL has struggled doing that, and KC will probably bring pressure if the Bills spread them out. However, I don't see either team scoring a lot of points. Certainly KC's offense isn't scaring anyone, unless they are weak against the run.

It's one thing to be trash talked by NE or a team like that but KC, although better than us isn't good enough to be trash talking anyone. I never root for the Bills to lose but if we do I just hope we show we can match up physically with them. Make teams not enjoy playing us even if they win.

I like the fact that we are rebuilding the D, still not done. At it's core football is about matching up man to man, big hits. The old Chicago Bears always had a suspect QB and a boring offense but the fans loved them. They came to play. That's what I want to see this year- teams having guys taking oxygen on the sidelines after playing us. Who's with me?
