HSBC Arena to become First Niagara Center

The Buffalo Sabres' home is getting a name change for the fourth time.

The Sabres will hold a news conference this afternoon to announce that HSBC will no longer hold the naming rights to the arena at the foot of Washington Street. First Niagara has acquired the naming rights.

The new name is expected to be First Niagara Center. The Web address www.firstniagaracenter.com directs users to the arena website.

But I think the name is just too boring in general.

I like that they are going with a Buffalo Based Bank....making more ties with Buffalo, I think this just another great move by Pegula

pegula didn't make this decision. HSBC did when they sold a bunch of branches to First Niagara. As part of the deal, First niagara got the naming rights.

I always thought Centers are only when the Arena is more than just a Arena and it has a shopping mall in it or several other things. Center just doesn't work, IMO. But oh well...

Well, the Sabres Store is the largest in-house team store amongst the 30 NHL teams.

And it's basically the "center" for most of the tourists who come in from out of town for games and concerts and other events.
