Ted Black made it official today that the Sabres will have "Swords of a Thousand Men" as the song after the Sabres score a goal.

"Swords of a thousand men will be the "official goal song of the Buffalo Sabres,
They are loading it into the jumbotron now as we speak". We tried it out last
season and we have gotten over one million requests from Sabres fans not only in Buffalo but Sabres fans all over the world to make it our goal song. Ted Black

I remember it from the early years of MTV. When they played all music.

it's catchy. i think it's just conditioning of fans for the most part.

if you listen to it now, you probably will be like, "meh". But when the sabres score some big goals and that song comes on, it'll be pavlovian. you'll love it.

why 20 years after technotronics "pump up the jam" do i still like hearing it? Because the sabres used that as the goal song for like 12 years.

I can see it increasing beer sales.

I like it. Jeremy White from WGR was the one who brought it to everyone's attention. Works really well IMO.

Can I get a source other than Fitzpatrick Beard. He has zero cred after posting that stupid thread about the Dreamliner.

I like the Tenpole Tudor version.

Great choice.

It's got that same sing-along punk vibe as Ole by Bouncing Souls or Bro Hymn by Pennywise, but it's not used by half the ****ing league like those two songs.

I just hope they have a better recording than this at the arena, because that youtube version sounds like someone held up a tape deck at center ice and recorded it while they were doing sound checks.

I take it back- the Real McKenzies version is SO much better than the original.

Unfortunately, the only video I could find of it was recorded with a cell phone at a live show so the sound quality is brutal.

When I have more time I'll see if I can find a better version.

Once everyone hears it for half the season, I think the chanting "Ooh Rah" part will be chanted along with and will be awesome.

Agreed, how come the only source for these Twitter's quotes is him. Nothing on Sabres home page but this guy has the inside scoop. If he doesn't provide links, his **** needs to start going to Spam. Does Ted Black even have a Twitter account?

The Real McKenzies are bad-ass. I didn't know they sang this song but I'll have to check it out. I'm sure it's better than this Tudor one.

WTF is wrong with you? It's gonna kick ass when over 18000 people yell "over the hills came the swords of a thousand men!" after every goal.

Would be 17999 if I were there. That song STINKS...

I don't care all that much just hope they don't play that crap every time they score.

Sorry- we'll have them dig out Jock Jams for you.

I'm sure we can find some nice Pump Up The Jam, Zombie Nation or Whoomp! There it is! for you.

Would that make you feel better?

Maybe I will like it eventually but it seems extremely lame to me right now.

The shout song is lame too and I love it. Maybe I will grow to like it as a tradition or something.

WHOOOAA man chill out. Sorry the song is terrible. Dont get your panties in a bunch.

I don't really have any better idea so I will try to learn to like it. I will get douche chills when they play it after a goal for about the first 200 goals I am there before it will grow on me.

I think this is a good choice.

It's not my first choice and I could come up with several that are better, but think about all the other garbage that gets played in arenas. Every other team's goal song is either cliche or pure crap or both.

At least this one's punk and at least it's original.

I'd also love to know how they even found this song.

I've been a fan of obscure punk rock for probably 15 years now, maybe longer, and I like a lot of British punk and Oi bands, but I've never even heard of these guys until today.

I checked out one of their albums earlier and it was decent, so it was definitely something I would have checked out sooner if I had known about them. I wonder how they slipped through the cracks for me and I wonder how the team stumbled upon them.

song is like 30 years old

I don't know if it was Jeremy White or a listener to GR550 that brought up the song, but that was when I heard it. It was during the phase where the Sabres were taking "requests". It might have even been the impetus for the "requests". But I remember Jeremy discussing one day needing a goal song.

I think it is because "oo rah" is more of a Marine chant than Air Force.

Yeah, Jeremy campaigned it pretty hard on Twitter and I think managed to get one of the Pegula daughters to use her influence and they tried it out at the end of the season last year.

A lot of the stuff I like is 30 years old- the Clash, Sex Pistols, Sham 69, the Business, Buzzcocks- those bands were all around before I was even born.

But that does help explain how the Sabres found it.

did we ever get resolution on this? I just googled it and couldn't find anything.

It's crucial that I find out in the next 2 hours before I go to bed, because with opening day tomorrow, I need to know if I should set my alarm to Swords of a Thousand Men or this:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IG3065i786k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

(I wasn't kidding when I said I like a lot of music that's 30 years old).
