Here is a short synopsis of the Bills. I know many of you billieve that the Bills will go 19-0 etc... and that we are great, etc.... but here is a more realistic projection and assessment of our strengths and weaknesses.
Defense:
The Good:
D-Line: looks to be much improved. If 'Lights Out' is nearly as good as he once was, watch out! The pass rush could be fund to watch!
The Bad:
3 New LBers, one of which is a rookie, could spell trouble. There will be a learning curve, however our LBers last year were by no means great, catching up to that talentless unit won't be hard to achieve. Expect to see them turn the corner and match last season by week 8.
The Ugly
Our secondary is going to suck. I remember a couple of years ago, many on here thought we would have the best secondary in the NFL, a year after drafting Mckelvin. Ha! Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Here we are a few years later, and this is one of the weakest parts of the defense. Their starters are average with McGee getting older and McKelvin being servicable. Safties are going to be bottom of the league. On the positive there is good dept at DB. Overall don't let last year's number fool you. Opponents will be able to pass on this team.
The Offense
The Good
Finally the Bills have a Poor Mans Offense. At least its an offense. They are by no means the fastest, the strongest, or the best. Every good offensive piece is second rate and there are no super stars here. QB Fitz lacks in physical prowess but makes up for it in his decision making and savvy. WR Johnson is not the fastest, the biggest, the quickest WR however he knows how to get open. RB Fred Jackson is no different than the rest. He can often make something out of nothing, somehow he finds a hole, he is elusive and has very subtle, yet effective cuts. He is not the fastest, strongest, or most dynamic running back, but he is the epitome of the Best the Bills have to offer. Watch them move the ball and at times dominate, however they will never be great.
The Bad
Spiller and the TE. He is a poor mans Reggie Bush. Like his predecessor, he was highly thought off coming out of college. He was labeled for greatness, for rookie of the year, etc... however he can not run between the Tackles, nor can he finds/create a whole which is not obvious. Look for him to add out of the backfield, however if his season is anything like last year, the bad will become the ugly. TE need to improve dramatically. Bare minimum, can the Bills get a full season from any of their TE?
The Ugly
O-Line has been a disaster for many many years and this year its no different. Ironically, the line has regresses, it has gotten worst over the years. Tackles suck, Guards are average at best, and the Center -Wood- is getting his first shot at Center at the NFL level.
The Offense will go only as far as this O-Line, which may be the difference between scoring a lot and not scoring at all. We will have games this year where the Offense looks great, and then games where the offense will have trouble getting a field goal. If the Bills offense was a stock, it would be highly volatile. Why such huge swings back and forth? Simple, against the better pass rushes in the league the Offense will struggle big time.
