Pretty simple exercise. Position-by-position comparison between the last season of the Jauron era (2009) and the opening roster of the second season of the Nix/Gailey.

Is our talent better, worse, or even with two seasons ago?

Jackson - push
Spiller vs Lynch - Lynch
White vs Omon - Push
McIntyre - push

Overall worse today.

Push - Lynch had the power but danced around behind the line too often (waiting for the parting of the red sea), ala McGahee. That's why Jackson started seeing more touches.

Spiller is NOT a between the tackles type but a far better home run threat and will probably be back on kickoff returns, in addition. He did hit some small holes quickly during this pre-season.

Still, I see Jackson as the primary guy and I'd take Spiller over Lynch right now as the 2nd back. He can do more and isn't an off the field headache.

A little better. I like Spiller more than Lynch and White has not tried to steal any Billszone posters girlfriends.

Push. Spiller needs to be a more consistent contributor before passing Lynch.

Push. Lynch never did produce much. Spiller is still unknown. And as far as White and Omon go, again, two scrubs.

Spiller vs Lynch - Lynch

Overall worse today.
I think you overestimate Lynch. But given your steadfast desire to turn anything into a negative, that doesn't surprise me.

Overestimate Lynch? No. What I do is think CJ Spiller is a complete waste of a pick and a bust. He makes Reggie Bush look like a future HOFer.

Average NFL RB in Lynch vs Spiller is not even close. Jackson is Jackson and a 3rd string RB is meaningless.

i voted push at this point lynch was ahead of spiller going into year 2.

however i think spiller will be involved in the passing game more then any rb here since thurman this season

The only way we'll be better is if we give Jackson the rock 25 times a game.

I'd like to say better, but until Spiller shows anything on gameday, i'll stick with push. I think Spillers potential big-play ability and possible contribution to the pass game would make us better, but that potential has yet to be realized.

Coming into the 2009 season Marshawn Lynch was coming off of two consective 1000 yard seasons. Jackson, as a back-up in 2008, rushed for over 500 yards. Lynch at the time was 23 and Jackson 28.

Coming into 2011, Fred Jackson is 30, and just missed out on two consecutive 1000 yard seasons. Spiller is 24 (he is about 18 months younger than Lynch - so mind you Lynch has two 1000 yard seasons already to his credit at this age) and ran for fewer than 300 yards in a dissappointing rookie campaign by all accounts.

Jackson is a young 30 so **** your prediction.

Curtis Martin had his career high at 34. And so will Fast Freddy.

Action Jackson will be rushing for 1000+ well into his 40's.

He's ****ing invincible.
