Probably means Pianalto gets cut... but Pianalto may clear waivers and make the PS.

Dont be so fast to move Pianalto off the team.

Easily could be Smith as an OT, as opposed to as a TE.

He could be a blocking option.

He's above 270 now and since when does a player needing to add weight stop you from trying him out at a position?

But adding him to the roster means a cut for a guy that may not be able to play OT at all.. I really think it's a blocking TE signing. It may actually displace Martin.

Could be, but with our horrible depth at OT why not move him there?

At least with Pianalto and Martin you have guys who you know have talent (Martin) and a guy you have high hopes for (Pianalto).

He could also knock one of the Bills 40 LBs off the roster.

Move him there, but he can't play there now. That will take time

Agreed, he'd be a ST'er this year, and maybe fit as a jumbo eligible tackle on the goal line.

LOL, yeah, so that we can beat the Pats.

16th time's the charm?

We're building our O-line from the TE spot. Wonderful.

Pianalto got released.

Yea Pianalto's agent said its because Bills are worried about injury to Martin.

Not exactly the 'depth' I had in mind, especially if they are moving him to T.

Yeah if it's info they're looking for might as well just call Sammy Morris up. No not sign him, call him up. Bring him in for an interview, waterboard him...he'll talk.

I don't think a move to tackle looks imminent, especially with the Pianalto release.

Wonder if Bills are considering putting Martin on IR for the year ? Move may indicate it's being considered, once Smith comes in for a physical.

They should have cut Martin. He's a bum and Pianalto has potential.

The Pats cut 2 young TE, Lee Smith and Will Yeatman (claimed by Miami). Both are similar, big, blocking TE. Of the two I thought Yeatman was better and he got a lot more time in preseason. In fact, I thought Yeatman would make the team as a 3rd TE. In the end, I think both were cut because they were inconsistent, and the Pats are in win-now mode and want the reliability of a vet. Alge Crumpler was cut before camp because he had offseason shoulder surgery and wasn't ready, but I would expect they will bring him back at some point if he is ready.

At any rate, like I said the surprise to me is you claimed Smith over Yeatman. Yeatman displayed more ability and seemed to beat out Smith, he displayed big, soft hands and more ability in the passing game as well. Smith looked really slow and was not a threat at all in the passing game. He really seemed fairly pedestrian blocking as well, and that supposely is his calling card. Maybe the Bills try to beef him up and make him an OT, but I was pretty unimpressed by him as a player.

Good move. He can really help the Bills' bullpen. Great slider and 90+ mph fastball.

I think in the PS games he was above average as a blocker, but he might have to bulk up to be effective against starters. His effort is ludicrous though. I can't see him as a tackle

Dam it I was gonna say something similar :laughter:

We would probably be better off with the former Cub's pitcher :D

Smith was brought in precisely for his blocking skills. The Bills have no need for a pass catching TE. Sure, one would help, but its not something the Bills need to make their offense work like the Patriots do. He was a good grab for this team. He will be coming in a lot when Brad Smith is at QB probably. It wouldn't surprise if that were the reason Gailey claimed him off of waivers. JMO
