BNHarrington Pavol Demitra and Ruslan Salei are most recognizable players on Lokomotiv roster.

ByTimGraham KHL site lists on Lokomotiv roster Pavol Demitra, Salei, Skrastins, Rachunek and Vasicek. But never sure how updated online Euro rosters are

BNHarrington No ex-Sabres players/prospects on KHL's Lokomotiv in wake of today's plane crash. Most recognizable name is coach Brad McCrimmon. Tragic.

What a horrible hockey offseason

But it was not known whether they were on board the plane.

I'm guessing it's probably pretty much the entire team - a terrible tragedy

I heard on the radio yesterday that the Kontinental Hockey League is doing a draft from every other KHL team, to create a new Lokomotiv roster for this season, so that the team will live on, and Yaroslavl will have a team. The Lokomotiv's former coach is returning to coach the renewed Lokomitiv roster.

I think that's a really great idea, and good for hockey.

The Vishnevsky hospital said 26-year-old Alexander Galimov died of the severe burns that covered about 90 percent of his body, despite the best efforts of doctors in its burn unit, considered one of the best in Russia.

That's really sad - but not unexpected. Someone with severe burns over such a large percentage of their body has a very very slim chance of pulling through. I hope he didn't suffer too much, and that both he and his family and friends have peace.

The Kontinental Hockey League, the clubs, and the players’ union have agreed the following: as a tribute to the Lokomotiv players, coaches and staff tragically killed in the Yaroslavl disaster, the opening game of each KHL season between the Gagarin Cup winners and runners-up will from now on be known as the game for the Lokomotiv Cup. On Monday, the 12th of September, Salavat Yulaev and Atlant will meet in Ufa to compete for the first Lokomotiv Cup. The game between the two teams on the 7th of September was abandoned when news of the tragedy in Yaroslavl came through.

Lokomotiv president Yury Yakovlyev said the team might begin playing in December in the Major Hockey League, the second tier of Russian hockey.
By way of a concession, Lokomotiv will be automatically eligible to compete in next year's playoffs, regardless of where it places in the MHL.
