is our special teams which had poor showing at pre-season games.

This team no longer carry special team specialists like the previous regimes and I don't know if this team is good enough to recover from special team disasters.

In the Jauron era, I would seriously say this new kickoff rule would spell disaster. The only time Jauron's offense would score was with a short field after a McGee return or a bomb.
I'm less worried about it now after Gailey's offense showed the ability to actually sustain drives.
Jauron's teams had a guy who made special teams plays but could not hold an actual position. Sam Aiken made some tackles but couldn't get on field on offense.
This team has as much or more talent than Jauron's teams. Someone will step up into that role.

If the running game of KC gets stuffed, the chances of winning are great. ST's won't even figure in. Moorman will just angle it out of bounds and if I see Lindell kicking off frequently, that means we're scoring a ton.

It's all how you look at things.

St is your biggest worry? Sure, I'm concerned about it but we have bigger things to worry about. Like a porous O-Line.

Injuries. Always injuries that worry me with this team.

Offensively though, I'm not as concerned about our special teams ability to get positive plays.

As far as biggest worries about Sunday's game, for me its endurance. Can this team keep pace with KC for all 4 quarters? That is really what could be the determining factor in this one. A solid running game has a way of wearing down a Dline. The team that is better conditioned will probably win this one. Turnovers, and penalties are close seconds. Turnovers are often the determining factors in close games. Penalties can hurt any good defense, and are often drive killers on offense. JMO

Lack of depth means lack of ST talent. I too am concerned with kickoff and punt coverages. Teams might actually opt to run out of the end zone thinking they can do better than the 20 yard line. It could put even more pressure on the D. Lets hope it doesn't turn into a problem.

(for the optimism impared, I will translate the above post into language better understood...)

WTF is Nix doing? Two off-seasons and we still have problems with special teams? We're doomed. I'm so done with the Bills! I'm going to just hit my head with a hammer while I watch the game.

The O-line scares me to death. The lack of experienced receivers worries the Hell out of me. Inexperience at some front 7 positions, plus uncertainty at Safety, is cause for concern.

Special teams, particularly without Corto, are an issue, but to me, a comparatively minor one.

I'm still worried about our run D until proven otherwise. Our OL was worse last year and yet somehow we managed to score a TD or two.

I have seen enough in preseason to not be worried about the run D. There are going to be many surprised Chiefs fans on Sunday when Charles gets stuffed.

I am not concerned about the OL too much in this game as long as everyone stays healthy. I will be more concerned about it in 3 weeks when the Bills play the Pats*.

My biggest concern is lack of experience at WR. I just hope Smith & Spiller can pick up the slack.

my biggest concern is that our upgrades on defense took us from spectacularly crappy to just mildly bad and we still give up like 120 yards rushing and allow too many 3rd downs.

When I see the yards both NO & Green Bay gave up last night, I would take 120 Yds. The X factor to me is turnovers. If the Bills are on the plus side of that, they will win some games.

Special teams will be a determining factor in this game I agree, but we have great returners. I will depend on gunners and coverage. With an offseason shortened by the lockout, expect special teams around the NFL to be very sloppy as coaches would have delegated less time to special teams work in order to get offenses and defenses ready to go.

It won't just be the Bills unit that looks sloppy, KC and the rest of the league will as well. Look at yesterdays' game as an example. It was a great offensive battle, both defenses were a joke, and the special teams coverage units looked like they hadn't played together before.

This year is all about continuity and which coach was able to best make due with limited time and limited reps. Sunday is going to be interesting.

Lindell needs to man up and kick the thing out of the end zone. He has a 5 yard head start this year. I'm not worried about Moorman. He's the frickin star of the team.

Biggest worry? Keep Dareus out of the parking lot before the game.

The smell of BBQ is enticing.

That is why Jasper is on the PS. He will take care of the issue

While the STs didn't look good in pre-season, they aren't likely to be that bad. There will be guys like Wilson who will play STs who know exactly what they are, and should, be doing. Up until now, there were a lot of rookies trying to show something, and they will have gone.
Mind you, iirc, I said something like this at the start of last year, and we started crap on STs. I think after last year though, guys will know what Dehaven wants better, and their experience will help a lot.

They will have to. Easley is banged up and probably won't play. We're down to Stevie, unproven 2nd year guys Jones and Nelson, and the brittle-as-a-china-doll Roscoe.

At this point, I really hope Evans was a salary dump ordered by the bean counters. Otherwise, our football guys made one of the most stupid decisions I have ever seen.

The ST's we saw in pre season were filled with players that were on the bubble and have since been released, there will be a more set squad out there now that the regular season is here. The past couple of years the ST's have not looked great, but I think we have better players that will be on them now. I was worried about MOORMAN in the beginning of the pre season, but he came on really strong at the end. I'm a little worried about our safeties, there has to be improved play there if we want to be competitive. BYRD seems like he's always 1/2 step late, hopefully he's adjusted to the way they want him to play it now.

Injuries are always my biggest concern, but even moreso this season because A)-our depth is paper thin, and B)-we actually might have a few players with some talent, and their loss to injury could be substantial.

Who really gave a **** in the past if Trent/JP/Holcomb, the POS, Chambers, McCargo etc went down? Chances were, the guy replacing them wasn't really much of a drop-off, if any.

This season however, if Fitz, Merriman, Dareus, Stevie etc go down for an extended period of time we could really be screwed.

Where did you get that Easley is banged up and probably won't play?

And you forgot Brad Smith.

Actually losing Poz last year hurt the defense. I know you don't like the guy but he is way better than Aoydele.

I don't think there was a collective 'Gasp!' from the fan base when the POS went down, along with a general feeling of 'We're screwed'. If it happens with any of the current players that I mentioned, you'll see that this season.

I didn't forget Brad Smith, who is our 3rd QB, or Spiller. My post was in response to, and quoted, better days' post saying he hoped Spiller and Smith could pick up the slack for our inexperienced receivers. I agreed with him on both guys.

And BB.com has Easley as leaving practice and questionable for Sunday. But I guess it's not an injury, so who knows.

I just made up the rest.
