this is what i just posted elsewhere before seeing your comment:

i am sooo glad they are finally starting to crack down on head shots

it goes without saying that boyes certainly didnt mean to hit him like that, he has no history at all. this isnt like that total douchery neal hitting drury in the face from behind. they HAVE to punish that play, just like they HAVE to penalize shots to the head in the NFL, regardless of intent

now the question is will the NHL manage to shed its fifty plus year history of COMPLETE AND UTTER NONSENSICAL INCONSISTENCY when it comes to dishing out penalties and suspensions? chances are the answer is no, meaning we have a great many head shaking moments coming up when one guy gets five games and the next guy gets nuthin

i havent paid much attention to the nhl preseason, i never do, but i dont even have to look at those other situations to know that i will be pissed off and bewildered

consistency in the nhl punative standards has always been a total joke. i dont even care that its a sabres player because it really doesnt matter, why the hell cant the nhl seem to get even a semblance of consistency on these things?? its like a huge mystery that has lasted thirty years. man

As a follow-on to Shanahan's explanation video of the suspensions, it would be nice if he would make videos of hits reviewed by the league where no suspension was given to explain the logic and/or the difference between the hit that resulted in a suspension and the one that didn't.

Of course, if he did that, then more people may catch on to the fact that the league favors certain teams/players and is less likely to dole out suspensions for the ones that bring the league more money.....
