Right near the end of the Sabres open practice Wednesday night Pat Kaleta came out from behind the net to try to center the puck. Thomas Vanek of all people got him lined up in his sights and just hammered him. Kaleta laid on the ice before being helped to the lockerroom room. Lindy Ruff said, "He's shaken, but I think he's going to be OK. He got a little bit of a shot to the head there, but he's going to be OK."

Yes, you read that right. Vanek lays out Kaleta....It's a new year and new regime.

wow. two things. the obvious being that vanek drilled kaleta. the second being, kaleta is out before the season even starts.
sabres finally have some scary depth to handle this. i like what we are seeing.

Agreed, especially when he hardly ever does it in the regular season against the opponents.
I watched the video.. it's almost like Vanek didn't expect Kaleta to cut in front of the net like he did. There was no way Vanek could avoid it.. wasn't as bad as people made it seem

It did seem Vanek was playing with a little chip on his shoulder in the preseason.

Watch Vaneks head, he's not even looking at Kaleta before impact.
