TORONTO -- Pat Quinn stepped aside as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday but still will be the team's head coach.

Quinn will continue as GM until a replacement is hired. He will have a say during the hiring process.

Richard Peddie, president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment refused to say whether Quinn will have veto power on the new GM.

"It's not a veto, but it's a strong position,'' Quinn said.

Ken Dryden also stepped aside as president of the Maple Leafs and is now vice chairman of MLSEL. He also will be a member of the board of directors. The Maple Leafs also said that assistant GM Bill Watters will not have his contract renewed.

The changes were made as a new ownership structure is assuming control of Maple Leafs Sports Entertainment, which owns the Maple Leafs and NBA's Toronto Raptors.

"We are not satisfied with our current level of success,'' Peddie said. "We expect more and our fans expect more.''
