what is the purpose of the "tuck rule"?

I just don't understand it. QB isn't trying to throw and it is still considered an incomplete pass.

It is the same for the "hand going forward" crap. If a QB is hit, and even if his hand is going forward, and the ball goes backward, how the hell can they call it an incomplete forward pass? The ball went backward.

Hey, I understand the protect the QB thing, but these two calls are baffling to me. Can someone explain them?

It's purpose is to "tuck" away profits for the sportsbooks by screwing the heavy favorite out of a win.
