Offense ahead of Defense so far

The new CBA changed the practice rule during game weeks: only one practice with pads until the last 5 weeks.

Offense is usually more finesse than defense. You can practice walk through on offense about positioning, you can practice timing without pads. But defense is all about disrupting offense timing, about knocking people off their intended positions - so you need some hitting, which means practice with pads.

This CBA may have a long term impact on the game itself than we know.

The Steelers through 4 weeks have been ran on all over the place which is unusual for that defense. True they have looked old, their coaches are seeing something more than that.

This week, they are exploring a hole in the CBA rule and are planning to practice with pads for both Wed and Thurs - Tomlin came out announced so on Tuesday.

Let's not get too far ahead of themselves. I understand the mindset here, but every year there seems to be this sudden, unexplained explosion in offense, only to grind down to a slow, defensive struggle as teams tire out come November and December.
