A current NHL owner was at the Ralph yesterday with the Kelly family. And he reportedly met with Roger Goodell. More to come tomorrow. . .

Keep reading the tweets. Not Jacobs or Pegula, apparently.

Is Buffalo Rising a reliable web site? Also, if Pegula was not it, does it make a difference? You can't own a out of town NHL team and the Buffalo Bills.

Who owns the Toronto Maple Leafs? And don't freak out... they very well could want to keep the team in Buffalo... Jimbo wouldn't have it any other way...

No, looks like Stavros, Tanenbaum (Raptors) and others own the Leafs.

Could it be this guy? He would have to sell the Ducks before he bought the Bills though, due to NFL rules.

Henry Samueli (born September 20, 1954 in Buffalo, New York (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo,_New_York)) is co-founder, senior vice president, and chief technology officer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_technology_officer) of the Broadcom Corporation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcom_Corporation), owner of the Anaheim Ducks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaheim_Ducks)

He's also worth $1.7 billion, according to the latest Forbes estimate. :$:

There are possibilities:

Tennenbaum, to coordinate the upcoming Toronto Series.

You mentioned Samueli. He might be a long shot, since it appears he moved to LA very early in life and probably doesn't have much of a connection to the area anymore.

Possibly also David Thomson, owner of the Jets (edit: WINNIPEG Jets, to be clear to the non-hockey fans here), and a Toronto native.

Pegula WAS there yesterday. Whether he met with Kelly and/or the Commish I don't know, but I don't see why he wouldn't have.

Erm, isn't Pegula in Europe right now? Or at least was on Sunday.

 I would love it if Pegula bought the Bills. He would be the official savior of Buffalo and I bet people would be willing to rename Buffalo, PegulaVille!

Actually his daughter was in Buffalo, not Terry. But I consider it the same thing.

The team flew back immediately after the Saturday game, at least that's what the announcing team said during the broadcast.

As long as that out-of-town NHL franchise is not in an NFL market you can own the Bills. That is a short list.

Good detective work, Mike. And since L.A. does not have an NFL team, he is allowed the own the Bills. Verrrrrrry Interesting. For the umpteenth time: YOU CAN OWN A TEAM IN ANOTHER SPORT, IN ANOTHER CITY, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T COMPETE HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH AN NFL TEAM!!

Yet.

That may be why this is in the works now... The L.A. team stuff won't stop.

If that's the case, then prepare to replace Labatt with Molson.

Yeah the rumor is its the guy who USED to own the Canadiens. Gillett, who also owned Liverpool FC

Apparently Gillett and Kelly are friends and Gillett is supposed to have some ties to the area.

Wasn't the owner of the montreal canadians linked to rumors of wanting to buy the buffalo bills?

Age doesn't really matter if there's an actual plan in place for his dependents. The issue with Ralph is that his don't want the Bills.

Mudflap1
10-10-2011, 10:04 PM
It's not Henry Samueli. I think he would be very happy to remain owner of the Ducks and call it a day. He recently just dodged a federal indictment with Broadcom where they wanted to fine him $100 million (which is, I think, what he bought the Ducks for). He isn't going to be looking to buy any other teams anytime soon. Cross him off the list.

Michael82
10-11-2011, 02:27 AM
Hmmm, that would make sense. Hopefully he has a young son who wants to own an NFL team. But isn't Gillet the owner that owned a racing team that went to bankruptcy and then he was sued? I thought the Montreal fans hated him?

He is 72, the same age as Buddy Nix. Will be 73 by the end of the month.

thats fine that nix is 73 because he won't be GM forever, however I kind of want our new owner to be around for a while..... 50s would be nice

That struck me as strange considering the Molsons have owned that team for an eternity, but apparently there were a few years where Gillett bought, then sold back, a big chunk of the Habs.

If it's that guy, though... I'd be pretty concerned.

Gillet was a terrible owner for Liverpool, and as much as I enjoyed him running them into the ground, I hope he goes nowhere near the Bills.

Agreed. If you want an owner that will promise the moon and then nearly bankrupt the team in the process, that's the guy for us!
